katara Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Social medias were a mistake. We need to either ban them or regulate them to death EU style.
Dancehall Queen Posted October 21 Posted October 21 There's no reasoning with these people. I see a few people here making good points, but it's lost on people who believe these theories. They would just reply to these posts like this: On 10/17/2024 at 3:56 PM, discosean said: My thoughts about the hurricane one are this: if anyone or any organization could create hurricanes, wouldn't they be able to also destroy them or to make them less intense? Theoretically, if anyone could control weather, they could bring rain to drought-stricken areas or destroy the heat domes or extremes. But they can't because there is no such thing. Maybe it's because the government wants people to $uffer because that's more profitable and keeps them occupied while the government gets away with more nefarious things… 50 minutes ago, SoundsandSongs said: No victim has ever come forward about Beyonce and Jay about the things they're being accused of. I wonder why there isn't a victim alive to come forward…
Zeferino Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) So are you telling that kid from Africa didn't make a car out of condoms? jk those pictures always send me, and the old people typing "amen!" Most misinformation is spread by bots and old people. Tiktok has done to the 18-35 crowd what Fox News did to their parents and Facebook did to their grandparents, so it's hardly a generational issue. They just all get their misinformation through different mediums. Edited October 21 by Achilles.
Yes, AND Posted October 21 Posted October 21 yes. people will just believe anything and repeat it as fact.
Malkuth Posted October 23 Posted October 23 The reason why I got into conspiracies was because I saw so many lies and misinformation in the news and education system. Just constant, endless lies and suppression. I haven't watched or read the news in over a year now and I feel a million times happier. I've also quit social media. I prefer to just talk to people in real life about their opinions on things. The news always has an agenda and tries and manipulate you into believing certain things.

But they can't because there is no such thing. if there were such a thing as a hurricane or weather machine, it would not be used for good, PLEASE OT: yes, it's extremely worrying and getting worse and worse. and I don't care for people saying "America!" either, this is a worldwide phenomenon. people are conditioned by propaganda from a very young age, so falling for fake news is easier. if you are not actively working against it, this is an issue all of us face, especially in an age of algorithms that are catered to us. we need to reform education (on many things, but especially different approaches to media literacy), offer these people psychological help (if they even can accept it) and start a broader, inclusive conversation that addresses peoples worries. at the same time, its our own responsibility to fact check news as best as we can, question propaganda and hold people accountable for sharing conspiracies and fake news, not to mention the need for legislation and proper penalties.
