I was referring to the AI edits not the poster. I'm aware that fans wanted to recreate the original animated poster for nostalgia reasons or whatever, but she's clearly not okay with her face being covered. All I'm saying is that she has the right to express her feelings without some people on the internet telling her "its not serious! you're a public figure! you can't handle the fame!" because of their entitlement.

It's literally a sign of her entitlement. There's a difference between her thinking it sucks and her claiming it's some attack on her as a person. Saying "it's the worst thing she's ever seen" is so silly and tone deaf.

I find her to be very talented, but is her  personality gonna ruin this incredible marketing?

Girl it's not that serious… "the most offensive thing I have seen" :deadbanana2:WHAT???

It's just a fan edit of the poster to be consistent with the iconic original. They extended the brim of the hat and added red lipstick… who the hell cares?

She's insane for putting a sexual question and AI in the same category as literal fan art.

People have been making their own versions of promo posters since forever and this isn't even the main poster, it's someone's idea of what a teaser poster could look like.

"We communicate with our eyes" basic ass :deadbanana2:

there's nothing offensive about some actual fans making some harmless edits while also promoting the movie,

that ig story screenshot sounds unhinged, like she's talking about a very serious topic, you know, like the war, but then you realize it's about a fan edit

Or maybe she gets to have an opinion on how her face gets used by randos

I agree she's allowed to have an opinion but no one has to care about it

This comment reads like she lived a life of immense privilege and never dealt with any real hardships.

Weren't these edits made to fully recreate the original animated poster? Nobody said anything about her... I get what she means, but the witch's eyes aren't visible on the original, just her grin

People actually were making the edits because they were mad at the new poster. Like they were hating on her and Ariana, and was racist towards her to the point that ppl edit her out completely and replaced her with a white woman.

Even as a woke person she is too pretentious about it, like girl no one is erasing you wtf are you talking about?

I hope her problematic pass doesn't get dig up because of this, it won't look good for her.

First, love your detailed post ! Even if we disagree it's great to see your thoughtful list, along w the many posters

However many posts you included are in different genres (scifi, thriller, drama) / different eras (none in this current decade) .

Wicked is not like the examples above. It's a musical/ fantasy. It's aimed at young females, teenagers & family audience.

Wicked's comps are: Barbie, Wonka, Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia. These movies' poster will always show the actors' faces trust.

And sorry but you can compare the 2 posters (one with Cynthia opening her eyes, one with Cynthia closing her eyes)

Which one will make people remember Cynthia's face and help increase her brand more ? Definitely the one to the right

The movie matters more than a damn poster be all the way for real. No one is basing their opinion on the poster. It's just absurd and wildly pretentious and why so many people have begun to dislike "Hollywood"

Imagine thinking covering your eyes on a big budget movie poster, where you likely got paid millions to be the lead no less, is the "most offensive thing" you've seen. So out of touch and unlikable especially in this climate.

Did she overreact a bit? Maybe. But if she genuinely feels this way, I don't think we should invalidate her feelings.

A few things stick out to me.

1. All of the criticism seems to be directed at Cynthia. Barely anyone has noticed/cared that Ariana also isn't wearing a white witch's hat, or a long, white robe. And if they have noticed it, no one's felt compelled to change it.

2. Elphaba doesn't wear red lipstick at any point during the film. Why would she in the poster? That makes no sense.

3. The smirk also makes her look cunning, and truly "wicked". But the point is that Elphaba isn't truly wicked. It made sense for the original playbill, because most people were coming into it with "The Wicked Witch of the West" being their only reference point. Then the play flips the script. But we already know this. I kind of like that they made her look confident, but still a bit cautious/scared. She looks deep in thought. I think it gives her character more depth than just an evil smirk.

4. I agree with her about the eyes. She's the lead in a film. The playbook covering her eyes was just so Elphabas/Galindas could swap out so they wouldn't have to change their branding.

5. But more than anything, I agree with her that it was meant to be an interpretation — not an identical recreation.

I can see why people think she's overreacting, but again, we shouldn't tell a woman how to feel, or how to react to something.

And again, if "a perfect recreation" is so important to people, why does no one care that Galinda is in a completely different outfit? If "the white hat and white robe" aren't in the film, then I don't see why a red lip should randomly be on the poster.

Shes allowed to feel whatever she feels.

I do wonder though, if given the stakes of this film, she had to get approval from Jon and/or Universal prior to posting this.

The movie is the main cache for whether Olivia will be remembered positively from this film; the poster means next to nothing at the end of the day.

Well…clearly she's not off to a good start if you're calling her Olivia :jonny6:

It's one poster :rip:I think considering how iconic that poster is copying it as it was would have been fit. I don't think it's that serious on both ends.

Ridiculous. It's one thing to be upset about it and voice your opinion but it's another to make it such a big emotional deal…meh.
