Robyn. Posted October 16 Posted October 16 She's giving old aunty vibes who believes anything on Facebook The Internet is a huge place of viral memes, and unserious jokes... It's really not the place to give morals She must be new here 1 2
rhaenyra Posted October 16 Posted October 16 I kinda like her eyes being hidden and her lip turn red, such a stronger sense of contrast with how Ariana's lower half of her face is hidden It just gives more drama-mama Spoiler But the gif/video one was so weird, even I felt offended by it
rapperjennie Posted October 16 Posted October 16 'most offensive thing i have seen' is insane actually 8 3 1
Popular Post Gossip_Boy Posted October 16 Popular Post Posted October 16 "This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen" And it's some shitty fan edit/tribute to the original broadway poster. Wishing for a life like Cynthia's where a poster edit is "the most offensive thing I've seen". 4 3 11
getback Posted October 16 Posted October 16 is it THAT serious ma'am? the poster is uglee and they wanted something closer to the original, that's all there is to it. that's still your damn face, nobody is erasing you 2

Dolce Vita Posted October 16 Posted October 16 (edited) i think this speaks to a bigger issue on being a public figure and seeing random people using your likeness to produce content from it; the depersonalisation of people to make widespread content is so rampant and normalised by everyone. of course those unaffected by this won't think it's that deep but of course she's allowed to feel weirded out over ai'd edits of her likeness…i can imagine that being hurtful or make you insecure Edited October 16 by Dolce Vita 1 1

The brain rot is real. You're a public figure, you literally sell your image, and people are going to use it. It's as simple as that. In this case, it wasn't an offensive edit, but a FAN edit, which wasn't malicious at all. Y'all don't get mad when gifs like these are made: Also using the artist's face for a meme. I've never seen an outburst about that, but suddenly everyone's compassionate. 7 3 2
uusagii Posted October 16 Posted October 16 How did she even make it as an actress when she's this thin-skinned

No it's not. And this sentiment is what helped normalizing the AI deepfakes and disgusting edits all over the internet. I get it, some of them are funny and not malicious, but if the person in question is bothered by it...then they have every right to express that. Edited October 16 by State of Grace. 1 1 1
ATRL Moderator MissedTheTrain Posted October 16 ATRL Moderator Posted October 16 I know it's kinda "not that deep", but she has a right to speak about how it makes her feel since it is affecting her personally. I had the same thoughts when seeing the poster edit, I know people just wanted to re-create the original but I did wonder how it made her feel hiding her face. 2

Since the beginning of time, we've had fan-made album covers, fan remixes of a song, etc. Both using the artist's image or voice, and it was never an issue. As for the disgusting part of AI, it's a total different subject because it's new and there are not enough regulations about that yet. Edited October 16 by Robyn. 5

MALAMENTE Posted October 16 Posted October 16 That poster is not erasing anything, especially not her. It's such an overreaction to a nonissue. Now the AI videos is something that needs to be critiziced. 1
Europe Posted October 16 Posted October 16 This is an obvious PR stunt designed to make people talk. 1
KatyPrismSpirit Posted October 16 Posted October 16 It wasn't that deep. Fans are allowed to think the original poster sucks and can edit it to their liking. That is not degrading you. That is just their opinion. I could however understand that she found the video of them fighting degrading.

I'm aware that fans wanted to recreate the original animated poster for nostalgia reasons or whatever, but she's clearly not okay with her face being covered. All I'm saying is that she has the right to express her feelings without some people on the internet telling her "its not serious! you're a public figure! you can't handle the fame!" because of their entitlement.

Calling a fan edit the most offensive thing you've seen, is definitely an overreaction. But i'll let some of you be woke in peace at this point.

You need thick skin for this business. if she can't handle the heat she better get out now. But I do think she is not actually bothered in reality and this is just outrage marketing because that makes people talk. 1
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted October 16 ATRL Moderator Posted October 16 6 minutes ago, reymiu said: Yeah and what's wrong if she doesnt like her eyes being covered on the poster? Pls remember Wicked is her big project that could take her to a GLOBAL audience. Like this movie could make 400-500M and she is the lead actress in it. Her face will be on the posters that will be shown everywhere all over the world. Are you sure that people will notice Cynthia's face if they can't see her eyes on the poster? if the poster has Cynthia closing eyes and Ariana whispering - do you think that maybe people will only notice Ariana and ignore Cynthia ??? This kind of opportunity (Wicked) is not always available to WOC, including black WOC. Having her face with eyes open on the poster means increasing possibilities of global audience being familiar with / remembering Cynthia. I don't see anything wrong with her being upset about this I wasn't going to say anything, but I do think it's worth mentioning that the poster isn't really that big of a deal in terms of giving Cynthia a big break. Plenty of iconic movie posters do not have clear, recognizable pictures of the lead actor in them. I've attached a few examples pulled from a list of best movie posters (here). You'll note that many of these are career-defining and do not have clear, identifiable image of the lead actor's face. The edit is also not the new poster, so it isn't a threat to erasing her role in the film and squash her big break even if that were a valid concern. 4 1
Lady Claire Posted October 16 Posted October 16 I thought it was for that viral AI video where they are punching each other, but for a simple edit? Girl 1
