I mean, Reddit is a pretty big and popular platform with a pretty notorious reputation.

ATRL is still quite elusive unless you really search for it.

Also this is the first time i've heard of lipstick alley, but it probably suffers from the same issue as ATRL - it's just pretty quiet and the average user doesn't really pay much attention to forums, so they go straight to apps like Reddit, Twitter & TikTok

The server issue made this site lose a lot of momentum in the late-2010s. It's also a lot more moderated (which is a good thing).

Do the servers have the capacity to handle more traffic?  They are already struggling and this site basically shuts down whenever a big event happens.

i think comparing ATRL to Reddit is kinda like comparing two different worlds. sure, they're all about discussion, but the way they operate is way different. Reddit's set up as this huge web of niche communities (subreddits), so people can find exactly what they're into, even if it's the most obscure thing... 

 

also, i think forums in general are kinda niche now. ATRL's pretty specific with its vibes and user base, whereas Reddit's open to everyone and covers every possible interest. people might also be shifting to Twitter, TikTok, and other social media for fast takes, which could make traditional forums feel less relevant unless they offer something really unique or focused. so, while forums like Reddit might still be thriving, it's partly because they cater to all kinds of users and interests in a way ATRL doesn't. ATRL has its place, but it's always gonna attract a more niche, pop focused crowd that's not gonna match Reddit's massive numbers

i don't honestly think atrl is doing badly at all, a lot of forums were destroyed completely by twitter and facebook, i've seen dying forums and they have about 20 posts a day on them.

 

clearly the lesson is that there will always be people who love to talk about music and movies and weird people who are desperate to drag pop girls and we all still need a place to go

Also lipstick alley discusses a lot of other topics besides music and pop culture and is basically Wattpad 2.0. Theres some outrageous conspiracies on that site. You can find 300 page threads on the most bland khia influencers with 200k instagram followers on there

ATRL's traffic doesn't seem to be too bad, especially when you consider that sites like this are a thing of the past.

I don't think the average ATRL users would like LSA and I think lots of the users there wouldn't like ATRLers either.

LSA has talked badly about ATRL for years. i love both sites but LSA has a variety of discussions

I know, I read it from time to time for discussions that don't happen on ATRL (black related things) but many users on there are very rude/ignorant so I am not a regular.
