celeb news K-pop fans set up funeral wreaths for a band member who had a past girlfriend

This is insane…
Essentially, some rabid pop fans went ballistic with death threats at a member of RIIZE, for the fact that he had a past girlfriend & was caught smoking… so he left, rejoined days ago, and then was forced to leave again after they set up funeral wreaths in front of this (label?) building.

I don't blame the guy, but he knew what he was signing up for. You basically trade your youth years for money and fame. He is not the first and won't be the last. If you want to smoke, date, drink then don't be an idol. Sad but true.

Because idol culture encourages a boyfriend or girlfriend type of relationship between the idols and fans at least in Japan and Korea. International fans tend to be way less rabid about this stuff for the most part.

Because they idols that have been active under their company and have been caught doing way worse in the past and they shielded them. They couldn't do that for seunghan.

I think it's quite a complex mixture of 

 

- Puberty hormones / their target audience & the relationship they foster/encourage/profit off 

- Unaddressed mental illness epidemic in Korea

- Cultural ideals around "reputation" 

- There is a deep cultural custom of sacrifice or "owing", particularly between child & parent, I think that gets generationally engrained & then is applied/expressed through other channels, in this case, an extreme sense of possessiveness. 
 

I'm fascinated by Korean culture & really respect & am a fan of the strides they've taken in media - this is just what I've picked up from curiously watching Korean vloggers, so someone with more knowledge feel free to correct if I've got something wrong.
