German newspaper "Bild" congratulated Mouskouri on her new album and life in the article above. They also provide stats. They list the 3 best selling female recording artists ever. 1. Madonna 2. Taylor Swift 3. Nana Mouskouri (300 million records) So, what's your favourite Mouskouri evergreen?
Sheep Posted October 13 Posted October 13 (edited) If we're not using certified numbers then I can say aespa has sold 700m records. UMG has been publishing these lies about her for decades and the number is never the same from press cycle to press cycle. If you go digging through her catalog and checking sales project by project her sales are a fraction of that. Edited October 13 by Sheep
Arthoe Posted October 13 Posted October 13 No I'm not, Nana Mouskouri is a beloved European legend. 1

If you follow the numbers her real sales are in the 60-70m range which still puts her head and shoulders above anybody else from that region and puts her in league with several other global legends like Cher, Tina, Janet, Katy, etc. These blatant lies only undermine her very real success by pulling her legend status into question. CaptainMusic Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Fake stats. There's no way this random woman outsold Whitney, Celine and Mariah.

Paddy Posted October 13 Posted October 13 According to her wiki she "has released over 200 albums in at least thirteen languages, including Greek, French, English, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Hebrew, Welsh, Mandarin Chinese and Corsican" so fair play to her, really broading her market, but also her chart history shows that very little people cared so doubt these numbers make any sense, has someone added couple of zeros after that 3?

ithinkheknowsoutsold Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Not really. Nana Mouskouri was popular mainly in mainland Europe (not even in the UK, by far the biggest market in Europe overall), and she hasn't even been big there for like 30 years now. The entirety of Europe is a market similar to the USA according to the IFPI certification levels (the IFPI Europe Awards awarded a platinum certificate to an album that sold 1 million copies throughout Europe, same as the RIAA in the US). Based on that, we can estimate that her sales are comparable to an act that was huge in the US only and not elsewhere, and would it make sense to you if I said that a local American artist sold 300 million records and was the third best selling female artist in the world? 1
discosean Posted October 13 Posted October 13 At some point in time they were claiming she sold 1 billion. That is beyond ridiculous. 2

Well Rihanna sold 300 million digital tracks in the US alone.

She is rarely played on the radio in Central Europe, except during special segments where they highlight obscure yet successful singers. they always need to introduce her because very few know her music. 2

She also doesn't have 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify... but then again, her debut album came out in 1961.
stevyy Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 I swear these 1960s - 1970s acts sold the most amount of music ever... and nobody talks about it. It seems like the music industry crumbled in the 1980s and 1990s + beyond. 2

Her debut album is certified for 1,25 million in Germany... which is more than Swifts entire discography. Maybe it's not much, but it's an indication of how HUGE she was there. So, maybe she sold 30-40 million records just in that one country. 2

Just 298.75 million to go! Edited October 13 by Virgos Groove 10
