2024 - Seven | A first album in five years for Marie-Mai (actualnewsmagazine.com)

 

Marie-Mai's new album gets released on Friday, October 18th. This is her first album since 2018's Elle et Moi.

There are actually a few factors that affected her career trajectory 2016 and onwards:

 

1) It wasn't just her divorce from Fred St. Gelais that hurt her, but also the rumor that she had allegedly cheated on him with David LaFleche.

 

2) The Elle et Moi tour was very successful (she even did 3 nights at Montreal's Centre Bell and one night at Quebec City's Centre Videotron). However, she postponed two dates at Montreal's Place Bell in 2019, consolidating these dates into one final date at Centre Bell in 2020 that got cancelled because of COVID. When she was able to tour again, she did an acoustic tour which did well.

 

3) She broke up with David LaFleche in late 2022 and if I recall, quite a few fans sympathized with Fred St. Gelais since Marie-Mai allegedly left Fred for David. 

 

4) She had a 2023 TV special called Immuable to celebrate her 20th anniversary in the industry and released a couple of songs (Pour Toi and Wicked Ways), but no sign of an album.

5) She turned to other projects such as hosting Big Brother Celebrities, acting in film project and a TV show, as well as focusing on raising her daughter, Giselle.

 

6) There's barely any promotion for this upcoming album. She released the singles Noir Sur Noir and Sur Le Plancher this year, but there were no music videos released for them. She announced the release date for this album awhile back, but there was no new single released and she just now released the album cover.

 

Honestly, I'm not sure if music is going to be her primary focus since her priorities seemed to have shifted during the past few years. Hopefully, the new album will be good.

I love the album! The majority of the songs are a little too short, but this is a solid effort. It's a shame that we're not getting any new videos for the songs she's released.
