harwee Posted October 7 Posted October 7 We're in an era where so many think they're celebrities. Those OF guys with 100+ "fans" I mean.
Alldeezy Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I don't care for most of them these days just the ones I like
Beyonnaise Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) I think the long-term impact of the Kardashian/Trump era that really kicked into high gear in the mid 2010s is that people aren't any less interested or fascinated with celebrities, but they no longer hold them in an untouchable regard like they once did. They now seem much more mortal. Their mistakes feel more fleeting and their successes feel more trivial. The news moves so quick and people now just see all celebrities (and politicians) more like reality stars, popcorn entertainment to sneer at but still bop to or find funny or endearing at certain moments. Like… I can't imagine at brunch in 2035 people won't still be talking about the latest gossip with some celebrity. It's just the nature of how they're perceived that has changed. Welcome back to ATRL. Your presence and input here have been missed a lot. I always remember every single one of your posts has been interesting and well-thought out
Bencharmer Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I talked about this with a friend today and we noticed how the celebrity culture changed. 30 years ago, you needed to have an actual talent to show. 20 years ago you needed to have money to (Paris Hilton then Kim Kardashian...) Then Youtube, Instagram and Tiktok changed it all. Right now influencers kinda replace them due to their more "reliable" lifestyle.
