I feel like, almost overnight, we went from "it got mixed reviews at Venice " to "it is, without a doubt, one of the worst films of all time." I have to wonder if Gaga, or Joaquin, had similar reactions after watching it for the first time. I feel like no amount of personal involvement could blind you to the fact that your experience watching it was laborious and boring. Surely even they walked out of it going, "my god…it was bad. It was really, really bad. I ****ed up by signing on to it." There's no way they could have such a viscerally different reaction to…well, literally everyone. Why would Gaga put out an album called Harlequin unless she was convinced this would be a major hit for her, though? I understand these things are not planned overnight, but she could at least have changed the name of the album to distance it from the movie if she thought it would bomb. 1

It was clearly inspired by the film. Renaming it and shooting a different cover wouldn't change that. Furthermore, it was probably in her contract. 1

Also, for a supposed Adele stan, I always see you in Gaga threads just to hate and nothing else. Aren't you tired? Go listen to 30 or something

Xtina23 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 And it continues.... The GP has spoken - remember to say NO to GAGA! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA 1 1

The 2.5x is probably assuming there are no other factors other than recovering the budget itself. But you're forgetting you also need to take account non-financial consideration such as that HoG was released during the pandemic era when physical cinemas are generally down. So it being able to do 2x during covid restrictions makes it indeed not a flop. 1

You're ignoring all the money thrown at marketing and Oscar campaign, that money is not counted for budget but it's taken into consideration when calculating profits.

I think that's why the rule is that movie should make 2.5-3x of the production cost, so the extra buffer is to consider other costs not counted in the budget such as marketing costs.
