Virgos Groove Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Quote Mauritius will also be able to begin a programme of resettlement on the Chagos Islands, but not on Diego Garcia. There, the UK will ensure operation of the military base for "an initial period" of 99 years. …yay?
Princess Aurora Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Looks like the UK 'expansion' after Brexit is working very well
Mr.X Posted October 3 Posted October 3 The fact they remain in control of that US/UK military base just shows how much those two countries are still so deeply rotted into military interventions the world over. **** the UK

It's in the middle of the Indian Ocean and is really linked deeply with the workings of the US military base. Brexit has precisely nothing to do with it.

Now let me explain the context behind my joke. If you don't know, there was a discussion among British nationalists and low-ley Boris Johnson said they wanted to go beyond the EU and they came up with some hilarious theories about military bases in other countries. Therefore, this was my joke about it.

He was referring to trade opportunities I believe which is a wholly different thing, though there have been more discussions on defence with Japan for instance since 2019 or so. Now I'm no fan of B Johnson but it might help discourse if "Brexit" isn't just added in randomly in any conversation about the U.K. as if it's some kind of catch all comfort blanket for writers. We'll never move forward constructively in that way.
