What in house titles do Playstation and XBox have at this point which makes people buy a console over a competent gaming PC (where almost everything is available anyway) Consoles cost a small fraction of the price of a gaming PC and PC releases usually come out months or years after the game's initial release on console. Then there is the business of having to replace parts of a PC and these parts are expensive.

PC gets games so late and rarely are the ports quality. Old classics though? Absolutely PC is great. But the average consumer is not building a gaming PC, idc how easy you make it. And if you're the type of person that plays console games predominantly on the switch, you're a very specific type of "gamer." If I ask someone if they play games and they say, "yeah I have a switch!" I make a mental note that they don't play games and move on.
Elusive Chanteuse Posted October 2 Posted October 2 I thought XBOX has superior grahpics and is usually cheaper?

The last 2 juggernaut Game of The Year 'Elden Ring' and 'Baldur's Gate 3' have 50% of their player base all platforms combined from PC alone. The 2 highest selling digital game of this year Palworld and Black Myth Wukong, which also both broke all time streaming records on Twitch were mainly fueled by PC players. Let's not downplay how big PC is and how fast it's growing. Also your sentence about nintendo is such a stupid ignorant take, i lowkey didn't want to answer you. The nintendo exclusives have more actual challenging games than other console exclusives which are mostly movies filled with 100GB worth of cinematics and gameplay served on a silver plate that even toddlers can figure out. The switch opened the door for tons of triple AAA classics making their way into the console (Witcher 3, Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, Dark Souls, Diablo 3, Dragon's Dogma ect ...), you don't consider these gaming? and let me not start on the extraordinary catalogue of indie games which is only rivalled by Steam, so much so they had to create a direct 'indie world' dedicated for them. The 2 highest selling games on PS5 in the US this year are 'College Football' and 'Call of Duty: MD 3', i guess you consider those players the REAL gamers? good for you. 2 hours ago, Onyxmage said: What are you talking about? PS5 has sold over 60 million consoles as of 2024 and is outpacing the sales of ps4 in the same time frame. PC players really live in their own world. I have a PS5 myself and I love it but i just wish the catalogue was there to back it up. PS4 was my favorite console of all time and now I barely touch the PS5, except 1 or 2 game each year, I play most of my games on Steam because there's so much more offer there and it's much more practical, i can bring my laptop anywhere. 1 1

In fact casual gamers are the backbone of the gaming industry, You can justify and rationalize in your mind that console gaming is "dead" but the reality is that PS5 sales are doing just fine. Girl why you accusing me for a quote I didn't write, you ok? do you need me to teach you how to navigate a website.
Rigalo Posted October 2 Posted October 2 There's definitely still a space for consoles as long as they are affordable. Everyone knows you can build a supercomputer for +$1000 but very few people are actually going to invest money into doing that. I'm sure games like Fortnite and GTA are still making millions on decade old hardware like ps4/xbone, for the foreseeable future the casual crowd will keep consoles around I think. Now when Sony fucks around and releases the PS6 with a $600-700 price point they are gonna have a problem
Starshine Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Ask them why they spent $8B on Bethesda and $69B on Activision only for them to go 3rd party a couple years later as a last resort. They should learn a thing from Apple and have faith in smaller startups instead of buying up already established companies and tarnishing them. Anyway the Switch 2 will decimate + Nvidia's cloud gaming already makes existing consoles look like a joke. It's only a matter of time until developers opt in GeForce Now, and I don't have to use the shitstain that is Windows 11 just to play games.

A great GPU can cost more than 1000$ alone right now. Imagine by 2028
