It's still flying over your head tho. Those pictures you provided show the popularity of The Beatles but The Weeknd can have as many people on a show nowadays as well. Doesn't mean he's bigger than them. The point is that The Weeknd or Harry Styles would NOT be selling out stadiums in the 2000s, they'd be selling out arenas. The Backstreet Boys were having stadium crowds outside of their hotel rooms and two Diamond-selling album in the span of two years but were selling arenas while Harry Styles has a 2x Platinum album and is selling out stadiums. It doesn't take a genius to see that 2x Platinum performers aren't bigger than a Diamond-selling performer. As already mentioned, rock acts such as U2 or the Stones or legends like Michael Jackson or Madonna were selling out stadiums but the average pop act was doing arenas. Now, the average pop act is selling out stadiums. And I'm not hating on BTS, I'm just saying that the Backstreet Boys' popularity was insane and a band with their popularity nowadays would be doing stadiums. 1
Click Clack Posted September 29 Posted September 29 there's a few losers in this thread, just say congrats & go

Harry Styles has less than half the streams of The Weeknd, 2 out of the 3 legs of his tour were in arenas. No idea where this BSB/JT stanning is coming from but neither of those acts were at the level compared to the entire industry climate of their time that The Weeknd is compared to his industry climate. Comparing the BIGGEST legends of the 21st century to the BIGGEST legends of the 20th century is perfectly acceptable and you'll see the venue sizes match up, which is what I've been saying this whole time. Some of your 90s/00s favs who were objectively not the top selling acts of that era not being able to sell stadiums has no importance to this conversation. None of this has anything to do with Meghan and her 20,000 paying fans in a single city though. Edited September 29 by Sheep 1

His most successful album is at 6x Platinum while BSB's most successful one is at 13x Platinum (Diamond). Even on Chartmasters he's at 97M and they're at 101M. So if he's not on their level in sales and overall units how is he bigger? And this has to with Meghan because selling out MSG while impressive is not nearly as impressive as doing that in the 2000s. Or you are implying that she's as big now as Britney and Beyoncé were in the 2000s. I just pointed that out. I'm saying an artist of Meghan's caliber would not be selling out MSG in the 2000s because MSG isn't at the same level of relevancy as it was back then. Even the article I provided explains that concerts are more popular now than they ever were. And The Weeknd is not as big as The Beatles or Michael Jackson, like wtf. Harry Styles' last tour also outgrossed Michael Jackson's biggest tour so you're telling me Harry is bigger than MJ? You're telling me Coldplay, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran are bigger than Michael Jackson? Be serious. 2 1

The Victory Tour before this trend started was one of the highest profile tours ever embarked upon and to this day is still leagues ahead of any tour from the 80s. These cherry picked examples only work because of your confirmation bias. 1

All of them demolished her biggest tour. 1

I was already adjusting for inflation Adjusted for inflation, Coldplay, Harry Styles, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran have had bigger tours than Madonna. Listen, none of what you're saying makes sense because either you're saying Harry and the likes are bigger than Madonna and Michael Jackson OR you're saying Meghan is as big as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Beyoncé, Shakira, the Backstreet Boys, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Avril Lavigne were in the 2000s. What I'm saying makes sense though. Concerts and touring has exploded (as provided in the article I posted) so a popular pop artist with just a few albums can easily tour stadiums now while the same level of popular artists were not touring stadiums in the 2000s or 90s but doing arenas instead. It's a clear, pretty easy thing to understand and do research about. In the past, stadiums were reserved for the biggest legends and rock bands while arenas such as MSG was the ultimate limit for contemporary pop artists, while nowadays even contemporary artists can do stadiums. So either you're saying Beyoncé and Harry Styles are bigger than Madonna or you agree that Meghan is doing MSG but would be doing Radio City Music Hall in a 2000s music-state because touring has exploded. I hear what you are saying but tbh it is refreshing that her career is still going and she was clearly touched by this accomplishment Just let her have this one.
FrederickGa Posted September 30 Posted September 30 She deserves the WORLD.. I hope I could see her LIVE
Reginald Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Good for her Although I'm not a big fan of her music, I have to say that she is consistent and has an undefeatable musical identity. You hear a Meghan Trainor song, and you know who it is before she even starts singing. 2
