Mokichi Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Quote While 143 was a serious flop, there's no denying that Perry is one of the most important pop stars of this millennium. [...] Even as critics panned Perry's seventh studio effort, they've also been forced to admit that they too quickly dismissed the superstar's early efforts at the time of their release; belatedly recognising the charms of her early hits. Even if Perry's music no longer dominates radio stations and the echelons of the Billboard Hot 100, the influence of her tongue-in-cheek bubblegum pop is evident in the emerging pop stars of today, like Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter. Pink Ranger Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Not in the slightest Perry's musical output minus a couple of songs is extremely safe, the woman has never took a single risk when it comes to the sound of her music, she's the definition of a product, there's nothing artistically pleasing about her or her albums at all. Critics have been wrong many times with artists, Katy however they've always been pretty much spot on. minus her debut which showed promise but it was downhill pretty quick from there. 16 1 3

Witnessed ET Posted September 29 Posted September 29 They didn't lie of course the bitter losers are gonna break their heels running in here to say no but her legacy is still there despite a lesser amount of albums compared to her peers 7 4
rhaenyra Posted September 29 Posted September 29 (edited) She was partially responsible for Teenage Dream, so she has already marked her place in pop history But unfortunately, she has not topped herself since and instead have regressed dramatically..not only thru her music, but her image as well But she still deserves her flower 🌼 To add, the comparison with Sabrina's image and music having a clear influence from Katy's older work is evident, but Sabrina as an artist just feels more authentic in every way Edited September 29 by rhaenyra
Sannie Posted September 29 Posted September 29 (edited) Nobody denies her earlier work being iconic, so I'm not really sure what their point is here? You can't live off of 15-year-old songs forever. Actually, she can't period because she sold her catalog. Edited September 29 by Sannie 3 2
Onyxmage Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Her last real hits were a decade ago. This is getting ridiculous. Its like saying Cyndi Lauper was the most important pop star of the 2000s. 1

aotwbys Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I don't think I've detected a smidge of Katy's influence in Chappell Roan or Sabrina Carpenter's music.

manuelalex9810 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Paste Magazine didn't lie even if it boils OKH's blood, she's one of the most important artists. 5
ChooseyLover Posted September 29 Posted September 29 (edited) Important is a word choice and a set-up but yes, she's absolutely an icon and a superstar ingrained in Pop music forever. Edited September 29 by ChooseyLover 1
MonsterNavy Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Katy Perry Lumbers Hollowly Through Her Flop Era on 143 The pop star's sixth studio album delivers glossy but hackneyed dance-pop. Averting your eyes and ears from this tedious trainwreck would be a relief. https://www.pastemagazine.com/music/katy-perry/katy-perry-lumbers-hollowly-through-her-flop-era-on-143 i'll give them a pass for this nonsense article I guess 2
hawx23 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 The comparison to Sabrina and Chapelle is weird. I'm not a Katy stan but she had five H100 #1's in one album. No one will really touch that in a while. (Ariana and Olivia have managed two from an album at most). Sabrina has one #1 overall. 1
