I mean I get it.. I haven't paid much of my loans since 2020. Some people really want to act like these loans aren't theirs anymore. The pandemic ended about 3 years ago, like it's been enough of a grace period? Don't want to start paying them myself either, but they're mine and there's no way around it lol

The Student Loan protection programs that Biden himself put in place are expiring. He should continue them but funny to frame it like Biden is killing them. :katie:

The issue is that the proposed fixes under the SAVE plan have been put on pause.

You can't both claim to acknowledge and see that student debt in America is broken (as Biden did by announcing SAVE) but also be fine with restarting payments when allowing far-right courts try and make the system as unfair and broken as possible.

The Biden admin won't even fire MOHELA as the loan processor despite MOHELA actively helping red state AGs in court:

Mohela is the WORST. So out of date. I tried applying for the public service loan forgiveness program through them and never heard back after I sent in the correct documents. I gave up.

So does this mean ALL student loans will resume repayment in 3 days? I was paying my loans earlier in the year and then randomly the due date changed to July of 2025 without notification so I haven't paid since and now confused if I need to start paying again.

This is all a mess and instead of my country using my tax dollars to bomb other countries, I'd like my tax dollars to be used to erase student loan debt for Americans.

ETA: logged into my account and due date is still July 2025.

This is bad

It's actually infuriating because it's so insanely convoluted and near impossible to figure out how to see your payment plan or update it through the website provided in the notices.

MOHELA transitioning to a new website too also leads to confusion.

So basically if you don't make payment:

  • you'll once again experience punitive fees up to default;
  • and those who couldn't apply to SAVE but now find they cannot afford their payments basically have no options as SAVE is paused;
  • and plans like REPAYE (the plan most of those on SAVE were likely enrolled in originally) cannot even be applied to currently as the government took down the online application;

If you were enrolled in SAVE as your IDR plan and your loans are serviced under MOHELA, they announced on August 7th that these accounts would go into temporary forbearance due to the ongoing litigations...but also they list the forbearance as ending November 1st.

From what I see on reddit, other loan processors list end dates for those on forbearence as anywhere from February 2025, March 2025, and July 2025?

Under REPAYE, my monthly payment was $61. Under SAVE it was going to be $26.

If neither program is kept in place, the notices in my inbox say monthly payments would be... $548??  :redface:

He could extend it as long as he wanted and then when Republicans kill it could actually be a material policy for Dems to run on but of course not. The two party system is not about winning or losing, its about allowing elites to get away with murder and criminality and then blame the other party for the failed state of the country.

exactly.

I even went to a private school that DOESN'T EVEN EXIST ANYMORE DUE TO FRAUD yet at the end of the day, loans are loans, and I made them.  It's my stupid fault.  It would be nice if they were forgiven, but that's a shot in the dark.  It's still my responsibility one way or the other.  They should've already started back up years ago.

yes, from ITT-Tech.  BUT... my loans were consolidated into private loans, so I'm screwed.  Not completely.  2 out of 3 loans are federal, and they've been in non-payment forever, and I guess they were submitted for forgiveness, but nothing has happened so far.  Again, shot in the dark.  The other private loan i'm paying off monthly as I'm sick and tired of having them, in general, and I just want them gone from my life.  There is no way around that one, whatsoever, and right now it's at like 6k.  Could be worse, obviously.  The ITT forgiveness was all about federal loans, not private.  But it also stated dates that you had to fall into, and I didn't meet those requirement per se.  So again, shot in the dark.  I owe like 13k all together.
