Jotham Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Quote States that passed anti-transgender laws aimed at minors saw suicide attempts by transgender and gender nonconforming teenagers increase by as much as 72% in the following years, a new study by The Trevor Project says. The peer-reviewed study, published published Thursday in the journal Nature Human Behavior, looked at survey data from young people in 19 states, comparing rates of suicide attempts before and after bans passed. Over the past few years, dozens of states have passed laws affecting how transgender young people do things like play sports, go to the bathroom at school, and access gender-affirming medical care. Popular Post réveuse Posted September 28 Popular Post Posted September 28 Absolutely heartbreaking. I cannot believe the anti-trans rhetoric that has been spreading for the past few years. All of that has led to this. We must protect ALL trans people. 25
anastaciabby Posted September 28 Posted September 28 it's really sad how a forum like this doesn't pay attention to issues and articles like this, it's like everyone wants to (or just can, out of privilege) ignore the reality in the US and these red states alot of us are stuck in. I hope we can vote blue for States like mine if not voting presidential wise. immigrants, poc, women, the LGBTQ community are all under extreme danger at its highest level rn 3

Princess Aurora Posted September 28 Posted September 28 (edited) Are we surprised? The GOP, especially MAGA, is the Western version of ISIS right now..... Edited September 28 by Princess Aurora 1
Achilles. Posted September 28 Posted September 28 I'm sure that seeing this will just make them double down on it because driving trans people to the point of suicide is pretty much a goal of theirs. I'm really afraid of where things are headed on this front. Right wing media already propogates so much anti-trans content, and it'll just get even worse if Trump somehow wins again (and gods forbid he actually follows through on putting Musk in his cabinet). And if the DNC was any indication, the Democrats are putting little if any effort into countering this rampant transphobia. There are plenty of places in America where it's all but impossible to stop anti-trans and anti-gay legislation from being passed, but Democrats are supposed to at least win the culture war even if they can't win the political battles. But they just… barely even try.
JoeAg Posted September 28 Posted September 28 well what the f*ck did they think would F*CKING HAPPEN TO OUR YOUNGER TRANS SIBLINGS WHO ARE JUST TRYING TO LIVE THEIR LIVES IN PEACE AND HAVE THEIR OWN HEALTHY JOURNEYS IN GENDER AFFIRMATION? HMM?? I am so f*cking angry that in 2024 this sh*t is still happening to trans children. I'm particularly pissed cause I had a—now thankfully forrmer—coworker go off on a transphobic tangent last thursday that just really changed my view of him. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO GROW UP TRANS! and you know what, neither do I! two of my best friends do though, and these f*cking laws implemented by cis and straight people are egregious injustices of human rights. it's not the goddamn business of anyone but trans people, their healthcare providers, and anyone THEY CHOOSE TO SHARE WITH of HRT and gender affirming treatments they choose to have. the government should not be restricting people from living the lives they were f*cking meant to live. I swear to god I am so sick of people who aren't in the community, and also some of these stupid ass "conservative gays" who care about no one but themselves, getting in the way of members of OUR COMMUNITY being healthy and happy. it's so infuriating. I feel for all my trans siblings out there
JoeAg Posted September 28 Posted September 28 trans healthcare saves lives. get your f*cking horsesh*t religion out of politics, and especially get it out of people's lives. people who are trying to just LIVE. how hard is that to f*cking understand? I don't want any christianity or any religion in the way of people living and seeing a better future. they always say "oh not in my house!" well okay b*tch how bout in terms of repressive policies not in OUR HOUSES?
BionicWooHoo Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Pro lifers will no doubt have suddenly nothing to say about this 1 1
Bosque Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Disgusting and expected. They knew this would happen for sure
Velvet Night Posted September 28 Posted September 28 That's a feature not a bug… these rightwingers hate trans people. "Parent's rights" apparently include the "right" to bully your kid to death.
beautiful player Posted September 28 Posted September 28 This is awful and heartbreaking. And let's be clear, the far left's anti-voting rhetoric will only embolden right-wing transphobic legislators. 1
