scottstreet Posted September 26 Posted September 26 "We've been following Charli xcx since her first album, 'True Romance,' back in 2013 and have been with her every step of the way. We're so happy to see that the world has finally caught up with her innovations in pop music, which have reached a new peak with 'BRAT,'" said Variety Executive Music Editor Jem Aswad. "We're overjoyed to honor her as our Hitmaker of the Year." https://variety.com/2024/music/news/charli-xcx-variety-2024-hitmaker-of-the-year-1236156950/ Thoughts? 2
TayDuaStan Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I am a fan of hers & BRAT is AOTY but are the hits in the room with us? Should've been Sabrina, Gaga or Billie (the artists with the biggest hits this year - Espresso, Die With A Smile & Birds of a Feather). Even Taylor's Fortnight is bigger than any song Charli released this year 3 1 10
KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Sabrina Carpenter deserved this award tbh 1 1 1
Megan Pete Posted September 26 Posted September 26 the entirety of brat has less streams than espresso or birds of a feather. even chappell was a bigger hitmaker 1
TYMPS Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) Deserved, because lets face it She salvaged Ellas career, gave the Dare a career, did charity work for Troye and Dua, and gave Billie an actual bop where her flimsy ass vocals are actually a benefit Edited September 26 by TYMPS 1 2 3 3
Venice B Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I think a lot in here fail to realize that a hit doesn't mean just charts. I mean, yeah Espresso and other songs have done better numbers but which of them was so influential to the point of being brought up during presidential elections? Did we have a Espresso summer? A Birds of a feather summer? Be for real. This is totally deserved. Brat was a force and deserves all the recognition 2 11 1
Illuminati Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Everything she touched this year turned into gold so I'm not surprised
Bloodflowers. Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Thank you "i think I might say something stupid" hitmaker
Dolce Vita Posted September 26 Posted September 26 sorry but this is deserved. she is the tastemaker of pop 1
RoseBud Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Variety has other music related awards so the ones that missed out on this one have a chance for the others.
XXI. Posted September 26 Posted September 26 BRAT didn't necessarily spawn top charting hits, but I would say it's indisputable that her album had the most cultural impact this year. Happy for Charli to get the recognition.
Bubble Tea Posted September 26 Posted September 26 ATRL still clinging to charts to tell them what is and isn't a hit. Charli, after a decade of hustling, made it big. 1
flower moon Posted September 26 Posted September 26 deserved they said no to the autoplay songstress 1
By the Water Posted September 26 Posted September 26 ATRL really thinks hits are decided subjectively 1 1

Chart aren't everything, popularity and impact can come in very different shapes and forms.
Contessa Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Hitmaker and chartmaker aren't exactly the same thing let's make that very clear
