Why is mainland Europe more receptive to foreign language songs than the Anglosphere?

native English speakers are more used to all media catering to them

Latin music is massive in the US. But yeah outside of English and Spanish there really aren't major hits from other languages because the music industry as a whole is centered around the US. We set the trends and the standards so unless there's a big enough market for another language, there won't be mainstream hits in other languages.

There's certain subgenres of non-English songs (Molchat Doma comes to mind) that people do listen to here, you just won't hear it on radio. But last I was in Europe the only countries where I heard English speaking songs playing were the UK, Germany, and parts of Spain (Barcelona). I don't think France plays anything other than French either.

The UK likes foreign music but hates foreign people. Ironic isn't it?
