Achilles. Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Listened to Blue so much this year that she nearly doubled her total plays and entered my top 40 most played artists of all time.

I'm such a fake Mitchellover tbh I've only listened to Blue, Hejira, Clouds and her new live album. I'll put on Dog Eat Dog in a bit. I've heard it's different from her other albums so I'm curious

Her orchestral albums are godly too. Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm, Shine, Night Ride Home and Mingus are also good. I choose to believe that someone else inhabited Joni's body and recorded Dog Eat Dog + Taming the Tiger

AshleyLovescats887 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I listened to 'Ladies Of The Canyon' a few days ago and it's so good, i was surprised to hear the 'For Free' that Lana and her besties would cover in 50 years. My fav song from it is probably 'The Circle Game' or 'Morning Morgantown'
popmusicisdead Posted September 26 Posted September 26 this has been on repeat for the last couple days 1
teedhooks Posted September 26 Posted September 26 My favorite artist of all time I think it needs to be said that she has no bad albums and the hate some of her records get is undeserved x
P!NK2LOVE Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I've been doing a deep dive with her. Loved Cactus Tree and obviously Both Sides Now, from her first two albums, respectively. I'm up to her third album. For Free's sentiment is gorgeous, as well as Morning Morgantown. She's incredible

This is genuinely one of my favorite songs in her entire discography: "Oh come let us adore me Lord, there's danger in this land You get witch hunts and wars When church and state hold hands (**** it!) Tonight I'm going dancing With the drag queens and the punks Big beat deliver me From this sanctimonious skunk We're no flaming angels And he's not Heaven-sent How can he speak for the Prince of Peace When he's hawk-right militant?" 1

Bloodflowers. Posted September 26 Posted September 26 "I Think I Understand" is the best song of all time "I Don't Know Where I Stand" is actually the best song of all time!! Can't decide
Antisocialites Posted September 26 Posted September 26 the best storyteller and songwriter of this millennium
makeawish Posted September 26 Posted September 26 ok, joni top 5 songs: Spoiler 1. 'hejira' - there's something about that looping guitar riff dropping back into the song where i wish it would just go on forever 2. 'blue' - the moment where she hits the high note and the big piano chords come crashing in > a lot of artist's entire careers (esp her "peers") 3. 'the last time i saw richard' - it's quite funny to see her rejecting cynicism so definitively here given how...extremely cynical she becomes soon afterwards! (and also, just another one of those amazing grandiose piano songs that she seemed to knock off so easily) 4. 'song for sharon' - probably her best narrative song and again one of those looping hejira period riffs, this is probably the first song i think of if i think of joni 5. 'help me' - cos joni could write a dumb as rocks pop song as good as anyone when she wanted to top 5 albums: 1. "hejira" - one of the greats, even if i listen to tate mcrae more 2. "the hissing of summer lawns" - no i haven't put any songs from this on my list but "edith and the kingpin" is such a vibe, that kind of sleazy opulence 3. "court and spark" - i guess this is joni's pop record, which feels a bit reductive but it definitely features some of her dumbest songs (raised on robbery, twisted) in a good way 4. "blue" - this feels like the last 'early joni' record to me but less prim than the other ones, even tho it's so sad it has a real enthusiasm and youthfulness about it 5. "don juan's reckless daughter" - probably her strangest record, much better than its reputation tho it's probably best not to mention the sleeve
Antisocialites Posted September 29 Posted September 29 but now old friends are acting strange they shake their heads, they say I've changed well, something's lost, but something's gained in living every day
