Virgos Groove Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Quote Marcellus Williams, whose murder conviction was questioned by a prosecutor in light of what he described as new evidence, will be executed Tuesday evening after the US Supreme Court denied his request for a stay of execution. The court offered no explanation for its decision, which is common for cases on its emergency docket. There were no noted dissents in two of Williiams' appeals. In a third, Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson said they would have granted the request to pause the execution. Quote Williams' attorneys had asked the US Supreme Court to stay the execution, citing "newly-discovered evidence from the trial prosecutor's testimony" last month. During a motion-to-vacate hearing August 28, a prosecutor from Williams' 2001 trial "admitted that he had struck (a potential juror from the jury pool) because like Mr. Williams, (the potential juror) was Black," Williams' attorneys wrote in an emergency request for the US Supreme Court to intervene. Quote "There was a racial component to this," attorney Jonathan Potts said at a Missouri Supreme Court hearing Monday. But the Missouri Attorney General's Office disputed that interpretation of the trial prosecutor's testimony. Quote "Missouri is poised to execute an innocent man, an outcome that calls into question the legitimacy of the entire criminal justice system", [his attorneys said]. CNN The death penalty is immoral.
Miss Show Business Posted September 24 Posted September 24 According to CNN he's been excecuted. Capital punishment is a travesty to human rights. I do not understand people who want it to remain legal.
MusicLoverDude Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I'm not even surprised that: 1. It's a black man that was denied 2. The Supreme Court denied it given who is currently on it. I'm very much on the borderline when it comes to the death penalty as I feel like some murderers truly deserve it but if there was evidence to suggest he was innocent, he should have been granted a stay.
IBeMe Posted September 25 Posted September 25 i have been reading about this case for weeks now and my heart is sinking and racing each time i read about it. If there is even a GLIMMER of doubt that someone is innocent then the execution date should be postponed immediately. In fact the death penelty in general needs to be abolished but since its still a thing then whenever there is even a shred of possibility you may have caught the wrong person then the death penalty should not be applied. Personally, I think this man is going to be killed by the US's horrible justice system mainly because he is a black muslim man.

ZeroSuitBritney Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Absolutely despicable. Fun fact: The Democratic Party has also removed abolishing the death penalty from their agenda for the first time in a decade. 1
SinnerCity Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I just read the news! It's heartbreaking he was fighting against this for so long, the world is doomed
Wicked Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I'm numb to this at this point. I wake up knowing how easily one of us is gonna be discarded by this country. RIP to these men that have had their lives taken recently. Can't forget them.
