And to be honest, can we really blame people for being confused about "Die With a Smile"? She has clown-ish makeup on the cover, the song has the word "Smile" in it, and it came out during the Joker 2 press cycle. It's natural for people to think it was part of her current projects, even though she's already clarified it isn't. 

Plus it's what any other girl would probably do if she had a single as succesful as DWAS going on. Any other girl would likely find a way to append the single to the new project

I think Gaga referring to it as LG6.5 kinda already insinuates it shouldn't be included in her studio album count. Kinda like how 'Black Panther The Album' doesn't count as a Kendrick studio album, or Bey's 'The Gift'.
