Virgos Groove Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) Quote A desperate mother has spoken of her anguish after her teenage son was jailed for 18 months but is still trapped in prison 18 years later under a cruel indefinite jail term. Quote The jail terms were scrapped in 2012 amid human rights concerns, but not retrospectively – leaving almost 3,000 people languishing in prison with no release date. Quote At least 90 prisoners have taken their own lives as they lose hope of being freed. A further 30 suicides are said to have taken place in the community – where IPP prisoners are subject to strict licence conditions, which can see them being hauled back to prison for minor breaches. Gelato Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Even the guy who introduced them now thinks they're abhorrent and is campaigning for repeal. There is a little bit of hope since the government started listening to concerns before the election, we just have to hope the new government does the same.
Saintlor Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Doesn't this depend on what he was jailed for? Like did he kill people?
DonnaSpring Posted September 23 Posted September 23 The uk is far too soft on criminals , knife crime is rife, transphobic attacks on the rise, racist attacks, race riots. We need more tougher sentences 1
fab Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Pls the Independent article makes it sound like he's been locked up for 20 years over a "fight at McDonald's", when in reality: "Ings was given the DPP at Reading Crown Court in April, after pleading guilty to two robberies and two common assaults, while asking that a further four robberies, one attempted robbery and one assault occasioning actual bodily harm be taken into consideration." https://www.getreading.co.uk/news/local-news/vicious-thug-fails-bid-jail-4260407 1 1
family.guy123 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 He was sentenced to a MINIMUM of 18 months. Wonder why the article doesn't outline the crimes he's committed whilst in prison?
