Bosque Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Quote Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib met with former president Donald Trump in Michigan on Tuesday, shortly before Trump's town hall in Flint. Ghalib told the Free Press "it was a productive meeting" in Flint of about 20 minutes and that Trump asked for his endorsement. Ghalib said he told Trump: "I'm here to talk about that and how we can make it happen." The meeting is part of an effort by the Trump campaign to win over Arab American and Muslim voters, some of whom are upset with President Joe Biden over his policies in Gaza. Last year, Ghalib held a town hall meeting with Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser and now an outspoken conservative activist. Arab Americans in Hamtramck and other parts of Wayne County have also expressed frustration with the Democrats on social issues. In November 2022, Democratic candidates lost support in majority-Arab precincts in Dearborn after outrage over LGBTQ+ books in Dearborn public schools some said were sexually explicit. https://eu.freep.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/09/18/hamtramck-mayor-amer-ghalib-donald-trump-michigan/75275597007/
Mezik Posted September 23 Posted September 23 We already knew he was disgusting, so this isn't shocking.
Cruel Summer Posted September 23 Posted September 23 "I'm ready to face the consequences" is a WILD thing to say when endorsing the fascist cult leader of a movement that will absolutely turn on your community the instant it comes to power 4
Carla Rosón Posted September 23 Posted September 23 aren't you a supporter of "'gay' men can have sex with women" conversion therapy 2.0? why would a random mayor being homophobic even matter to you? 4
Marianah Adkins Posted September 23 Posted September 23 This is not surprising. This endorsement signals the shift or rather the return of Muslim Americans back to the Republican Party. They were voting Republican prior to 9/11 If the Republican Party isnt such a racist KKK scum of a party, tbh lots of minorities from the Middle East, Latin America and Asia who immigrated to the US wouldve voted for them. They align with a lot of issues imo.

Are you talking to me? This is the second time you've randomly accused me of promoting "conversion therapy" when I'm pretty sure I have never interacted with you on this website.

What kind of new lore being unloclked? 2 hours ago, Marianah Adkins said: This is not surprising. This endorsement signals the shift or rather the return of Muslim Americans back to the Republican Party. They were voting Republican prior to 9/11 This isn't entirely accurate. Muslim Americans are largely as progressive or regressive as modern Catholics and there's been a slow-but-sure journey for more moderate Muslims to get on board with some progressive ideals, but these disagreements largely don't show up in elections. Hamtramck - smaller than Dearborn with its population more South Asian than Dearborn's largely Arab community - still voted for Gretchen Whitmer in 2022. I don't know off the top of my head if the largely Muslim population of Hamtramck is located in Precinct 7 - since the Twitter user quoted below highlights that district for the greatest disparity - but I'm a crackhead and tabulated the results right from the Wayne County clerk's website and Whitmer won both Precinct 7 by 41 points despite the abortion amendment losing by 40 points there, and won the city overall by 60 points. She won the city overall by nearly 80% to Tudor Dixon's 20%. The great "Muslim shift rightward" amounts to a shift of: Biden, 2020: 84% Whitmer, 2022: 79% Edited September 23 by Communion

Must be tough when you are unable to form your own opinions about news articles posted with no commentary, and must instead rely on establishing an imagined moral superiority over other users on a gay pop music forum to even engage with news content at all 1
Rep2000 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Not the ******* Caravan writing, I- 🤡 Truly a clown. Trump and his base use migrant caravan as a scare tactic to energize their racist base. This is serving Black Nazi for Trump here.
Leppie Posted September 23 Posted September 23 The comments on that Facebook post, mostly all in support, are rather shocking One of the top comments saying they hope Trump stops his hate speech against Muslims after this meeting with the Mayor 1

The thread itself could be easily about the minority politics of Ghalib - "Mayor of Michigan town that Biden won with 84% endorses Trump" and we'd have to have the conversation of why Ghalib felt comfortable enough to endorse Trump in such a pro-Dem city. He himself seems more conservative than the average city resident yet he seems to be taking advantage of the large disillusionment and disengagement of Muslim voters in the city due to Democrats' rhetoric on Gaza and towards Islamophobia in general. 2
