JGibson Posted September 22 Posted September 22 This thread focuses on the happenings of the 2024-25 NHL season. The Florida Panthers won their first Stanley Cup in their existence with a 4-3 series win over the Edmonton Oilers, prolonging the cupless drought by Canadian teams. The Diamond Sports Group bankruptcy proceedings are having a major impact on certain teams, as the Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, and Anaheim Ducks left DSG/Bally for other pastures. This is the first season of the expansion franchise Utah Hockey Club (HC), as the Arizona Coyotes have been deactivated. Puck-over-glass delay of game penalties can now be challenged by a coach. Macklin Cerebrini went #1st overall in the 2024 NHL Draft, selected by the San Jose Sharks. There will be no NHL All-Star Game this season, as the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament featuring the USA, Canada, Sweden, and Finland will be held between February 12th and 20th, 2025. Players playing in the tournament must have an NHL contract by December 2nd, 2024. The Winter Classic will be at Wrigley Field in Chicago between the Blackhawks and the Blues on December 31st. The sole Stadium Series game will be played between the Blue Jackets and Red Wings at the Ohio Stadium in Columbus on the Ohio State University campus.
