Blue Monday Posted September 20 Posted September 20 You just had to be there when this dropped people diss it now but it's still a great album 1
lustforyou Posted September 20 Posted September 20 This was such a huge moment at the time. I hate that it's comparatively fallen off in recurrent streams compared to other imperial phase albums (Teenage Dream, The Fame/Monster, Sour, all Taylor albums, etc) Does anyone know why? Obviously it's super successful, but you'd think it'd be doing a lot more daily for a (at the time) record breaking album that's only 5 years old with 2 monster hits and another solid hit + from a still very relevant celebrity. It's so authentic for a pure pop album 2

It's so authentic for a pure pop album TUN does around ~2.5M daily. That's not really falling off considering it only has three singles. 1989 was doing ~1.7M daily in 2020 when it was the same age as TUN is. Daily streams fluctuate depending on if the artist is touring, play listing, and nostalgia factor. Nobody is nostalgic for 2019 yet like they are for the early/mid 2010's hence the daily streams for The Fame/Monster, 1989, and Teenage Dream. SOUR is a debut breakthrough album from a new, fresh artist with a small discography. SOUR is also currently out streaming GUTS so it's an outlier, not a standard. 4 3

It's still pretty recent but can be seen as an "old" recent album (contradicting, I know) because she's released two more albums since. On the other hand, Teenage Dream and The Fame Monster are a decade older and people see those albums as nostalgic.

I appreciate your breakdown! I didn't realize 1989 comparatively in 2020, and the nostalgia for the early 2010s makes a lot of sense to explain Teenage Dream and TF/M. I hope in 5-6 years when people are nostalgic for the late '10s and early '20s that it gets a similar resurgence to represent the era 2
$ebert Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Wow! Miss Grande you did that ready to watch her slay as Glinda
Slap Posted September 20 Posted September 20 That is a truly incredible achievement but how the hell does 7 Rings have more streams than the title track I can't. 1

laqqinq Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Smash hit! Her most streamed album and 14th most streamed female album of all time! BUWYGIB coming for 1 billion streams by the end of the month, and title track coming for 2 billion in Q1 2024!
