People Magazine getting backlash over Hayden Panettiere interview

Hayden Panettiere gave People magazine a heartfelt interview in which she spoke about vulnerable topics like her brother's death, but her demeanor in the clips has sparked serious concern among fans.

Page Six has reached out to People for comment on the backlash but did not immediately hear back.

Panettiere's rep tells Page Six that, for the actress, "speaking about her brother for the first time was very emotional for her — and it had been a long and exhausting day for her. She was not under the influence."

A source adds that Panettiere "fully cooperated" during the interview and video, and her team "was on set for the duration of the shoot." We're also told that the "Remember the Titans" star wanted to share her story with the publication — "as she has throughout the years" — of how "she faced her grief and is finding peace."

In July 2022, Panettiere did indeed open up to People about her secret struggles with alcoholism and opioid abuse.

Honestly some people's comments might be the worst thing about this, don't speak on someone's health like you're sure of anything, you don't know this woman :biblio: I think most ppl just aren't used to her current demeanor / seeing her in interviews lately (even if this one seems a bit more off but clearly likely due to the subject matter..)

anyway obviously wish her the best, we love you Hayden

her new movie is releasing later this month:

She definitely seemed to be under some substance in that interview. Wishing her all the peace, she's so talented and beautiful!

I said this in the thread about the upcoming Kirby spinoff but my friend worked with her twice at a convention and said that he suspected the good sis could've been high. I really hope she's sober and put all those negative vices behind her because I always loved her since the I Love You Beth Cooper days (my good sis @Bloodflowers.better stan too :clap3: ) and was so happy to see her build up enough courage to rejoin the industry after so long. For all we know her slurring her words and the odd cadence to her voice could stem from mood stabilizers which she said she's on. I was on them too for a while and spoke very similarly.

I mean she does look medicated...but my first thought is that it's okay after what she went through. If this is the best way for her to move forward...as long as she has a good support system around her to go along with said medication and has a physician that knows what's up, that's what matters.

I also think as long as this interview was scheduled because she wanted it, it's also okay. As long as she wasn't "forced" to do it, why not? We all move forward the best we can and even if she's medicated she's not impaired. She knows what she's saying.

Whatever happens, all the best to her. :heart2:

She did have some cosmetic work (mainly to her lip and cheek area) but she looks a lot better now. I hope to see her in more roles!

I read the video's comments before watching it, so I was expecting the worst. But, though I could see why people were concerned, after actually watching the interview, I don't have the same view.

Hayden seemed to be able to express herself clearly and thoughtfully, and her emotional demeanor was appropriate for the topics addressed. Of course, I could be wrong, but she didn't come off as if she was cognitively impaired or struggling to me. Maybe she has received medical and psychological help, and this is just her new baseline with those interventions. I hope everything she has lined up goes well for her.
