Not 34 already.  Will it match its debut on Billboard 200 too? Her mind.

Katy was never acclaimed but 34 is unprecedented not it being lower than Iggys In My Defense and Charlie's Nine Track Mind:jonny5: I am seated for the Pitchfork review

!! LADIES, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE !!

I need you to have a look at this website:

https://www.metacritic.com/browse/albums/score/metascore/all?sort=asc&page=0

As you can see, former MPG turned good-for-a-throwback chanteuse now shares the #3 position with legends Phil Collins & Viva Brother.

You also can notice that there are 139 pages worth of albums listed there, with each page having 100 entries.

That's approximately 13.900 albums, with only 2 of them being above the shoemaker mogul's newest release.

Yes, girlies, Katy Perry has a TOP 3 HIT in 2024!

This is historic and deserves both a whole round of A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E (make it real loud!) and at least 143 pages in this thread.

I put my hands up, make them touch, touch! (I make it real loud!)

Congrats, @Katy Perry, on your REMARKABLE and OUTSTANDING achievements! We are SO proud of you!

Reaching 143 pages with the Pitchfork review would be legendary behaviour

Can't believe so many ATRLers waited for this MC thread for months as if they were waiting for Xmas. Now I get it

"143 rings the death knell for Perry for no other reason than it commits pop music's ultimate sin: it's boring."

This review sums up my feelings.

It was just plain boring.

Felt like time of my life I couldn't get back.

Maybe she should've listened to everyone who told her working with Luke was a bad idea

We should all email Clash and convince them to lower their score to a 2/10

Yup but let's not pretend that 76 wasn't also earned because of the artist's name. If it was released by any other pop girl it would have got like 60-69. The the Anthology would be like 55-60 lbr. Like do some of you really believe that the 100s for the main album were deserved, while the rest of the scores given by other critics are quite bad tbh. Like do you think TTDP deserves the score 100/100? :skull:

I think her name/status influenced the reviews on both sides of the coin.  There were some biased interviews on both sides (some overly positive claiming it as her best album ever and some overly negative, noting their fatigue with her and talking about other things unrelated to the music).  I also think it's an album that's hard to review within 24 hours of hearing it for the first time, it's a lot to take in but it's really revealed itself to a lot of people over a little more time.  It's a bit polarizing, a lot due to the length, but for me personally it has definitely turned into one of my Top 5 Taylor albums.

143 is not exactly a hard album to "get".  It's pretty surface level, not really saying anything and there's not anything interesting about the song craft or production to make up for it.

The illusory truth effect.  So many people ran with the "panned" narrative based on a few reviews that people started to believe the album is actually universally panned.

This 100%. Most reviews for TTPD were actually pretty positive, including quite a few that didn't count toward MC. I also love how people are conveniently forgetting that some reviewers went out of their way to have multiple reviews from a same site count toward the MC score just to drop it down :rip:

But this is a topic about Katy, people, especially Gag stans, need to keep the Queen's name out of their mouths :coffee2:

Her reviews are also harsher because she's not a new act anymore for a long time now. She's supposedly a fleshed out veteran at this point and this album doesn't reflects that :emofish:
