Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Luxembourg, New Zealand, and Portugal all voted yes. Hopefully that means they're the next Western countries to formally recognize Palestine. Norway, Slovenia, Spain, and Ireland recognized Palestine earlier this year.

And of course my country Canada continues to be a ***** and abstain from voting. And considering the fact that the Conservatives are gonna win the next election, I fear we're gonna be one of the last Western countries to recognize Palestine. Ugh.

12 more months? Almost 12 months later? Cute!

Won't change anything, any major change will just get vetoed by the USA in the security council.

Not hapenning, sadly. :'( Our best chance was with the center-left government that was outsted lost the election earlier this year.

Not only does the current government (same party that wanted to drag us into the Iraq War 20 years ago) have zero intention of doing that, but they've allowed Portuguese boats to carry weaponry to Israel.

This is to end all occupation, which is deep rooted and decades-long. It's not regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, which has already been voted on, and passed, months ago.

Isn't this one of those lame ineffective non binding votes? Also since US voted no it means it can't be applied I think even if it was one of the legally binding ones…oh well. All these human rights bodies and stuff have proven to be so ineffective and actually complicite in this genocide now. This war has been a full mask off moment for the west and only further contributes to the moral rot and inevitable degradation of the West in general. The global south has always known this but now people in the west are waking up to this reality too and see the rot from within. Truly sad
