izebize Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Her entire brand and life's work lies with the CMA ofc she won't diss them. There's a reason she also doesn't talk politics, I highly doubt she's pro-Trump but it's very probably the overwhelming majority of her fanbase is or was at one point, so from a business POV it makes sense to never get into these discussions. Beyoncé herself seems to care more about her business ventures than the actual music so I'm sure she'll read between the lines and respect that. Also she already got Dolly's stamp of approval in very obvious ways, and she praises her once again here, so I don't really see this as shocking or wrong. 1

There are far superior country artists than her that deserve their nominations. Sis, what is that avi
LadyDiana Posted September 17 Posted September 17 It was a cosplay for Bey, it failed. She's gonna be nominated for a album of the year at grammys, mark my words 1 1
Mornings Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Considering Beyonce ruined her country classic, she deserved worse from Dolly 4
dumbsparce Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Dolly's right. The superiority complex of hér, her husband and their fans needs to be studied. 5 1

Got it. Beyonce 'flopping' is more successful than Katy's career. Please stop throwing stones in a glass house sweetie. You need to be concerned about how to get '143' to break the top 20.
Jay07 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I don't think it was cosplay for Beyonce, she clearly put in the work to study the genre and make a rich album that pays homage to the genre. That said, I don't think Cowboy Carter is a full on country album and it certainly sounds nothing like contemporary country, it pays homage to 70s country and rock n roll. In addition to that, the country establishment is very insular and very misogynistic, even Kacey Musgraves has problems getting recognition and she's been working at this for years, let alone Beyonce who basically abandoned the album and didn't support it at all with promo at country radio or performances. She made her point and she will move on to the next thing now. 2 5

Cowboy Carter "flopping" has nothing to do with it when it's sold more than all of the albums they nominated, and THE was also bigger than most of the songs nominated. Beyond racism obviously playing a part, country music has a bias against their own women and famous pop stars crossing over so it was always going to be easier for an unknown like Shaboozy to be accepted than Beyoncé. She also didn't help things by literally saying that it's not a country album, but a Beyoncé album. So it is what it is. 5
TipToe Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) They could just nominate her without giving the awards, you know? Like the Grammys does with AOTY. If they don't wanna bother recognize her effort to get close to the country genre - and having a #1 country sing at Hot 100 - the message is clear: she is not welcomed. If Dolly is okay with that why did she accept the featuring? For the checks? Oh, please. Edited September 17 by TipToe 1
QueenBeyoncé Posted September 17 Posted September 17 But Post Malone got nominated.. Dolly can truly go to hell with that bs! 2
Rotunda Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Dolly is the type to try and be nice to everyone/see both sides, so this response isn't surprising. I think there's an obvious racial angle at play here since other non-country interlopers are able to get noms, but Bey also didn't try that hard to ingratiate herself with the country community, so I find it hard to care too much about this. If Bey isn't going to go up to bat defending her work, why should any of us? 7 1
Mornings Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Dolly is the reason we got a Covid vaccine. She's done so much for the underprivileged communities in the south. Yall can keep your Dolly Insults because she didn't agree with you about Beyonce. Get a grip 1
Touchdown Posted September 17 Posted September 17 If J Lo is allowed to believe every netflix role she does deserves an oscar, then Beyonce is allowed to believe that her country music deserves a CMA. 3
BrokenMachine Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Little translation: "they prioritized artists who have done country all their careers, not delusional cosplayers, and also the album was a flop, bye" 1
Sannie Posted September 17 Posted September 17 The logic Bey and the Hive push is "Beyonce is black and cowboys were black so it's Beyonce's culture" and it's just Obviously it didn't work, and yes racism played a role, but my God Beyonce doesn't have to win and be included in everything. She did the country thing for one album and y'all really expect country fans and the industry to welcome her with open arms? Talk about entitlement.

Are you intentionally being reductionist, or do you generally believe the bolded is an accurate characterization of what has been conveyed? Beyond that, there was no expectation that country would welcome Bey with open arms. The entire reason the album exists was because the last time Beyoncé did a country song, she became the target of racist backlash from country music fans. You're out of your depth here. 2 7
MistressKay Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Beyoncé didn't do the work. That's it. If lil nas x could get nominated and win with old town road she could have gotten a nomination. She did little to no press. She did no promo. She's lucky to have even had the country number one that in itself was an achievement. I am VERY SURE if Colombia cut the check and she agrees to appear at the awards and perform she would have got like 3 nominations easily 1
Fleahive Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Every person in here calling Beyoncé country cosplay but mute about all the white artists this year dipping their toes in country should get reprimanded for racism idc. I'm so sick of yall disguising your very clear anti black attitudes behind stan wars and terrible drags. 4

The constant misuse of the word COSPLAY in here is making my head hurt as if any of these idiots are authorities on Country music to be determining what is and isn't cosplay when the only Country adjacent thing they've willingly listened to in their lives is Taylor ******* Swift gimme a break. We know what time it is. Whatever. Cowboy Carter still did what she set out to do with it and that's open the dialogue up and cause positive impact for new/lesser known black artists in the genre (hello Shaboozey who is currently enjoying his 10th week at #1!). They will keep paying attention and hating hard behind a keyboard because they are pressed that their faves could never cause this much discourse over their work or have the balls to take such an artistic risk in the first place. 3 1
