Dolly Parton defends CMAs

Dolly Parton on 'COWBOY CARTER' being ignored at the CMAs.

" I don't think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album."

"Well, you never know. There's so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field, they probably thought, well, we can't really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that. But I didn't even realize that until somebody asked me that question. But it was a wonderful album. She can be very, very proud of, and I think everybody in country music welcomed her and thought that, that was good. So I don't think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album."

:lakitu: thoughts?

I'm surprised Dolly said this especially as a contributor on the album. However, I will say, if Bey wanted this album to make more noise, you would think she would promote it in some way shape or form after the second week of release… :biblionny:

Dolly is correct and it's funny to see people that have never cared about country music or the CMAs fuming over this

Eh, Dolly is a gem and gave a very diplomatic answer. She can't really go against either. Bless her.

Why is it just a "specialty album?"

Worry about getting Katy getting that first Grammy or even being nominated at ANY award show first. :rip:

Talking about my fave wont change the fact that Beyonce deserved NOTHING and got NOTHING.

xoxo.

Okay this is Dolly's diplomatic way of saying of course the CMAs will nominate and award lifelong or "real" country artists instead of a cosplaying interloper who already has more Grammys than everyone :rip:

Not interloper dddd :deadbanana:

Because Beyoncé isn't a country artist and country fans didn't care to listen to it, what's hard to understand?

Dolly is RIGHT :clap3:

The way Beyonce fans think she needs to get nominated for everything :rip:  She's not a country artist, her album flopped after the second week and nobody listens to it anymore.

There are far superior country artists than her that deserve their nominations.

With a Katy P avi you would understand what it means to flop. Especially when Katy hasn't had even a top 30 hit after 3 releases from a new album. Remember, Beyonce went number #1 this year with a song AND album.

Yeah idk if I agree with her. Even if we label Beyonce's album as a "specialty" - it's still country, so why would that preclude her from being nominated? The album made a huge splash on release and yet not even a nomination? :rip:

It just feels like there's a lot more to this decision that is independent of the actual music, and Dolly's answer pretty much sweeps all of that under the rug. Whether that's a conscious choice on her part or just something she hasn't really considered, I can't really say.
