But the proposal doesn't mean that employees are allowed as much overtime as they want, just that they won't pay taxes on the overtime they do work. Employers already try to limit the amount of overtime hours worked by employees. This proposal has nothing to do with that. For a simple example, let's say someone earns $500 in overtime. Instead of giving $250 to the employee and $250 to the government (on the employees behalf), the full $500 is going to the employee. The cost is the same, so why would employers all of a sudden start cutting overtime hours more than they already would be?

What does that have to do with it? Waiters get paid 1.50 an hour and that gets taxed, do you want them to starve?
