He's a musician, he probably was just protecting his hearing. A lot of people are even wearing Loops as concert goers these days. It's a non issue.

I very much second this! More people should know about and wear protective earplugs at concerts.

Also activate headphone safety on your devices, because too many people listen to music at far too high a volume.
