elincomprendid Posted September 12 Posted September 12 With her 7 wins tonight, Taylor (30) officially surpasses Beyonce (27) becoming the most awarded artist on VMAs History. What went right? https://www.billboard.com/music/awards/taylor-swift-vmas-2024-passes-beyonce-top-winner-1235773005/ In doing so she also extends her record for the most wins in the biggest category "Video of The Year" 5 6 1
sciencemagic Posted September 12 Posted September 12 VOTY for a video that only has 103 million views YouTube MVs are dead but this is ridiculous 7
ImpressMeMuch Posted September 12 Posted September 12 how will they guarantee her attendance every year if there's not a record to be made!? 3 3

bad guy Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Since 2016 the VMAs have been a participation trophy award akin to kindergartners getting a golden sticker if they follow the rules of nap time. But congrats on her record for most red carpet walks 12 1

They were never meant to be prestigious. They are meant to have spectacle. Unfortunately, they've been boring for years. But that's a separate issue.
Cruel Summer Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Love to see Taylor dominating and getting consistent recognition of course, love to see Beyoncé having a huge list of wins there as the foremost visual music artist in the world (IMO). Both queens - and we're fortunate to have an awards show that so loudly and visibly celebrates the women in popular music. I look forward to them both racking up more wins in the future. 4

I've no problem with fun for as long as they based the awards on merit "video wise" But now it's all fanvoted & attendance awards.. might as well change it to MTV Awards not VMAs Also, twas at least somewhat ICONIC during Britney and Gaga's REIGN.. Last ICONIC thing from VMAs was Miley last 2013 i think Edited September 12 by FrederickGa
Hook Up Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Crazy for someone whose videos really aren't referenced or iconic in comparison to those before her 8 1 3
Rotunda Posted September 12 Posted September 12 (edited) I think that Taylor is one of the last popstars who still wants to and is capable of playing the pop star game the old fashioned way. She's willing to release constantly, put out videos, tour, engage fans, curate her image, and open herself up for public commentary in a way that many other artists aren't. And she's still able to draw widespread interest in a way others aren't. To me, that's why even if I haven't been personally impressed by Midnights/TTPD as projects, I also understand the wins. While other artists are waning culturally as they prioritize family, health, balance, etc., Taylor's still fighting for what she wants in every avenue. Edited September 12 by Rotunda 11
Kiss It Better Posted September 12 Posted September 12 with 3 above beyonce and beyonce hasn't released a music video since 2020, let's get this title back bey 2

NextBish90 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Don't make me start, because it's not worth it. Music business is literally dead and they're milking to the max their cow. 1

But this is "VIDEO" Music Awards Not "Feed your fans with multiple variants and quarterly releases" Awards 2
Arrows Posted September 12 Posted September 12 The way she completely monopolized every award show is so funny And it's completely deserved this time, Fortnight is a fantastic video 1 1 1
Shinning Posted September 12 Posted September 12 An absolute embarassment Most award in history with not one iconic video 5 1 10
kimberly Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Taylor does have some iconic videos, let's not get carried away. "Blank Space"? Sure. "You Belong With Me"? Yes. "Cardigan"? Love! "Fortnight" is such a non-event, and Taylor's self-directed videos for Midnights and TTPD have all been lackluster. 7 wins for that... especially the "professional" category wins... ijbol. MTV is so unserious. 3
