Jon Snow Posted September 10 Posted September 10 i thought we all have conservative family members, and we still love them. the fact that they don't understand something, doesn't mean they're Trump-level evil. do people think that you stop loving your family just because they're homphobic? that's certainly not the case with me and even my friends 1

State of Grace. Posted September 10 Posted September 10 (edited) Queer girlie having a religious and conservative family but still loving them? A shocker. That's so Being Gay 101. In this same interview Chappell mentions how she HATES both parties too. But I love how your Swiftie ass thought this was a cute attempt to get back at people criticizing Taylor. Scott Swift is a republican. His daughter loves him. And that's fine. The problem was never about loving your republican family/relatives. It's about cozying up/hanging out with someone who just supported Trump (and doubled down on it) and staying silent after republicans tried to use your name with a fake 'Swifties for Trump' AI mess. It all looks like like a soft/fake endorsement to many people, even if anyone with a braincell would know she herself is not a Trumpster. It's like yall deliberately fail to see the optics... Navyofbadgals Posted September 10 Posted September 10 do some of yall think people you know for years and years, which you might tolerate off camera, is somehow the same as a public figure jumping on the opportunity to support trump, and her 'friend' who only knows her for a year give or take? I also think there's a real difference between mere republicanism and that outward bigotry that MAGA puts forth, which in 2016 was already on display, in 2020 was indisputable and in 2024 has somehow become even more apparent than ever before (like they're literally doing now with making up fake stories about Haitian immigrants, further inciting violence on POC) 2

Joey307 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 (edited) I just love how liberals always seem to forget that their faves such as Hillary, Obama, and Biden were vehemently anti-gay up until like 2015 but you wouldn't disown your family for supporting Obama in 2008 and 2012, right? I'm not going to disown them and make a public spectacle out of it to appease people who live through purity tests. At the end of the day, I still love (most of) them. Actually engaging with these people, gaining an understanding, building mutual empathy, and having genuine conversations over issues will do way more than ostricizing them, which will just perpetuate their own victimization and negative perception of "the other side". I don't necessarily agree with this notion. If most of what Trumpism and the current Republican Party stands for is rooted in hatred and fear of the other then that should be condemned and shunned. There is no room to empathize with that ideology it must be called out for what it is. By doing that you clearly make it known that it is wrong to think that way. There really is no room for nuance when it affects real people lives. Edited September 10 by suneclipse121

americanlife Posted September 10 Posted September 10 So beautiful and insightful to hear! Taylor and Chappell both love their loved ones, agree to disagree!
