Digitalism Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It's funny how the internet think she will loose people by saying this. IMO she will win the gp that is not into politics. Which is a much bigger audience 13 1 1
Popular Post Sombre Posted September 10 Popular Post Posted September 10 (edited) Republican is not the same as being a MAGA goon in 2024, sorry. You shouldn't distance yourself from family members and friends just because they might be Republican, that's absurd thinking. However, if they're so far right republican that they support Trump 2024 and Project 2025, then yes you should distance yourself from those friends & get backlash for supporting them. It's different with family members because that's ultimately your family. Edited September 10 by Sombre 16 3

Vegvisir Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Cute attempt at redirecting the heat Taylor is getting for hanging out with Brittany Mahomes, but unfortunately for you OP Chappell is a queer woman and her position does not compare. 7 2 5 8
suneclipse121 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I honestly would cut ties with family if they were Trump supporters but that's just me. You can't say you love me but be for someone that essentially sees me as less than human. 1 3

Associating yourself with Republican friends is one thing but parents? Is she supposed to cut them off from her life completely? This way of thinking infuriates me tbs 1
Into The Void Posted September 10 Posted September 10 (edited) I fully understand her My best friend, sister 90% of my family are voting Trump Edited September 10 by Into The Void
Khal Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Family, understandable, as you don't choose your family. Friends, I don't get, based on what Republicans stand for, but I'll leave that to her 7

glitch Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It's a touchy subject for sure. Luckily both of my parents have similar political views to me (apart from my mum being a TERF ) but I have very little contact with my right wing, populist, anti-immigration, homophobic, misogynistic, islamophobic extended family because of their views and behaviour. I don't know if I could cut off my own parents though, that's quite a big step to take.

Just a Gay on ATRL Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I understand her. This is how real life works. It doesn't mean you agree with them. If they're a total hateful bigot kind of Republican, that's another story, but I don't think every Republican is an awful human being. If you think democrats can only have personal relationships with other democrats in their whole lives, it is just not happening like that. 12

If you want to draw distance between your friends and family for supporting Trump, that is your right. Expecting other people apply those same standards with their own friends and family is insane because it's none of our business how Chappell Roan relates to her family. 4 27 1
Shimenawa Posted September 10 Posted September 10 (edited) Well it is her family. Several pop girls like GaGa & Katy have MAGA parents too. As for the friends part, yeah that's a choice Edited September 10 by Shimenawa 2
Popular Post EnigmaticAndroid Posted September 10 Popular Post Posted September 10 I live in Florida and a majority of my extended family are lifelong Republicans and have voted for Trump in the past. I'm not going to disown them and make a public spectacle out of it to appease people who live through purity tests. At the end of the day, I still love (most of) them. Actually engaging with these people, gaining an understanding, building mutual empathy, and having genuine conversations over issues will do way more than ostricizing them, which will just perpetuate their own victimization and negative perception of "the other side". 15 5 1
