Streets are saying they cut a LOT of Gaga's scenes

it's even weirder because the final movie cut was submitted before the first trailer's release that contained the already deleted material :rip:

The director couldn't stand gagas bad acting so he had to cut her out :priceless:

She saw Katy flopping miserably and said "Hold my Nurtec, I can do that on more fronts."

to be fair, Joker 1 was an EVENT that grossed $1 billion+ I expected a huge opening weekend as well :deadbanana:

Yeah i personally loved joker 1 and it was a huge event, everyone was so hyped for this, me included, but the way all of the hype just died... :deadbanana2:

$140M+ is worldwide, not just overseas.
The first one opened to nearly $250M worldwide.

And those numbers aren't flop numbers, especially for a October release and a musical, original one at that. I get you expected it to do $1B+ in it's opening weekend because it's Lady Gaga but that's not how the industry works.

It was never a superhero movie, so I don't get how a drama/musical making upwards of over $140M+ in its opening weekend worldwide can be considered a flop to anyone following the movie industry and who isn't stupid, even with its reported budget. In fact, it might become one of the highest-grossing musicals ever made. But that doesn't fit your narrative so go ahead and expect The Dark Knight numbers.

let's wait for the weekend to be over and see what the actual opening is, because based on presales, it could be even lower.
Anything below half a billion total worldwide gross is a flop, FYI, given the budget.

Maybe she can get a supporting role on Yellowstone after this

The underperformance of this film is not on Gaga. C'mon now :priceless:

Her screen time is 25 minutes. She's barely in it. This is completely on the director, who should never direct a 200M film again. He's the reason why this is flopping.

She's in a lot more than 25 minutes of the movie idk where you're getting this idea from :celestial6:

That's like 1/5th of the movie. It's enough to ruin it. You wouldn't eat an apple that was 1/5th rotten, so why would you watch a movie that is?

katy perry fans daring to call anyone poison in this thread  :deadbanana4:

anyway, seems like this movie is a victim of what has been plaguing entertainment in general for a while now - abandoning the core audience in order to try to win over new people who just don't care while alienating said core audience. these companies never learn :toofunny3: it's a shame because i was really looking forward to this

Pretty much this. I was really excited for this, but the reviews from critics and  people who have seen it are so disappointing. I'm not even sure who the audience for this film is? The incels who stanned the first one and considered it the GOAT are crying, Gaga's fans are crying, musicals fans are crying, DC fans are crying :toofunny2:

Still looking forward to watch it and have a proper opinion tho, but it's such a shame that Todd ruined what could have been a pretty great film

I know OGHs will disagree but I think news of Gaga's diminished role has had an impact on some of the audience's interest. I'm not saying she was necessary for it to be a success, but her addition has been responsible for a fair amount of the hype. First the news that it's a musical, then the mixed reviews (with none of the controversy of the first movie), and now this? I can't see it making even 1/3 of Joker's gross.

In the words of Grace, RELEASE THE GAGA CUT :clownny:

The inclusion of Harley was the draw, not GaGa herself. You could replace Lady GaGa with  Margot and the hype would be there.

And had this movie been the same just with Margot it would've been flopping as well.

That is the point. People wouldn't turn away in droves over Lady GaGa not having enough scenes. If anything they may have (and that is a stretch) turned away by Harley not having enough scenes.

It obviously wouldn't be flopping as badly. Gaga has cemented herself as box office poison. Only one movie she has starred in thus far has ever turned a profit, and that was remake of a remake that smashed of a remake that smashed of a remake that smashed. Literally almost a century old IP.

Maybe she is just a terrible actress that's why they cut so much of her? #butthesagaward

JUST CHECKED ONLINE THE FIRST BBC REVIEW AND ITS TRUE

To be fair, the idea of concentrating on Fleck's pre-crime boss period, and of paying homage to Martin Scorsese's 1970s and 1980s urban-blight films in the process, was what made Joker so groundbreaking. But now that Phillips has co-written and directed a sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, shouldn't we finally get to see him planning heists, crushing rivals and perhaps even coming face-to-mask with the Caped Crusader? Apparently not. Phillips and his co-writer, Scott Silver, have decided to carry on with yet more of Fleck's backstory instead. It's a fascinating decision which bravely subverts audience expectations, but it does result in a film that is a dreary, underwhelming, unnecessary slog.
