Do y'all find it interesting that this might be yet ANOTHER 2019 sequel that underperforms? We've had Shazam, Aquaman, The Marvels, now possibly Joker 2. Also I think Mufasa is gonna bomb too. I just find it interesting. I feel like all of these movies took WAY too long to come out. I feel like each of those flopped for different reasons, not because of the time between them (except maybe Aquaman), but it is kinda interesting that all of them are from 2019 JFAD's worst offense imo is that it had no business existing in the first place. The first movie is fantastic as it is, there was no need for a follow up. 2

Da Vinci Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Gaga and Katy should be banned from touching clown related things I fear, it's a curse! 12

Barbenheimer last year proved that the GP is hungry for original blockbuster content yet studios keep insisting on lacklustre sequels and franchises and the public isn't lapping it up anymore. all the recent superhero sequels have critically bombed too so there's no good word of mouth to keep them afloat. deadpool & wolverine being the only recent exception i think 7
AvadaKedavra Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Ok i was just joking. Honestly i am bit a sad things are goin this way for her. I wanted everything in this era to be real successful and then come with the cherry on top LG7. I been hearing how Joaquin Phoenix is a **** and a pain to work it. This is probably karma for him Ok maybe this will be good in the long run. She will focus more on her music career I love Gaga the singer. I dont care that much about the actress

I feel like D&W had the major benefit of being dumbed down enough to appeal to people en masse but also have brutal enough action (and Hugh Jackman) to prop it up to feel like a full theatrical experience.
Rihinvention Posted October 1 Posted October 1 I wonder if she auditioned for Elphaba, and if that affected her when she didn't get it. I remember that Bachelor contestant saying she used to sing 'Wicked' songs in college and it drove everyone crazy. https://www.tmz.com/2023/11/07/lady-gaga-bachelor-carly-waddell-annoying-school/ Quote Carly said that Gaga -- who went by her real name, Stefani, back then -- would dismiss basic lunchtime etiquette, singing "Wicked" at the top of her lungs while on the piano as others tried to eat in peace ... every single day. Carly said, "It was break time, and we were forced to listen to her" ... which she found so irritating, she started eating her lunch in the hallway just to flee Gaga's singing.
Calvin Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Watched it, both phoenix and Gaga are terrible in this film.

She didn't bother auditioning we already know who did.

The target audience for this kind of movie doesn't like musicals. What were they thinking? Yeah I liked the first movie but HATE musicals I love The Greatest Showman soundtrack and have replayed it 100000x times but have still never even watched the movie Calling it a musical was the biggest marketing disaster they could have done

There's only 8 months difference between Gaga and Cynthia Erivo… Amanda Seyfried is a few months older than Gaga and she went to multiple rounds of auditions for Galinda. Lea Michelle is only 4 months younger than Gaga and auditioned for Elphaba. So many actresses in their 30s went for it. Yes, they're meant to be in college, but it's not like people in their 30s have never played college students. Even Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth looked noticeably more mature than 18-year-olds. Besides, we're talking about the land of Oz here. Is "well on Earth, freshman are usually 18" really where you're choosing not to suspend your disbelief? It's a freaking University for magicians in the land of make-believe… Edited October 1 by Rihinvention 1

OT: J: FAD is just not very appealing. Nobody talked very much about it in the weeks leading to the release. Edited October 1 by AgentChain
Radical Pessimism Posted October 1 Posted October 1 I will support Gaga by watching the movie at my local theater. 2
