SoldierofLove Posted September 7 Posted September 7 As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau digs in his heels and pledges to stay on as Liberal leader despite dwindling public support, some LGBTQ2S+ activists say he is putting queer and gender diverse people at risk. Queer advocates say a Conservative government led by Pierre Poilievre would be dangerous for LGBTQ2S+ Canadians, and some are pushing for Trudeau to step aside to give the Liberals a better chance of winning the next election -- which must be held on or before Oct. 20, 2025. The executive director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Queer Research Initiative said she's concerned about the potential harm of a Conservative government for queer Canadians. She pointed to Poilievre's comments saying minors should not have access to puberty blockers and transgender athletes should be barred from women's sports and change rooms. https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/lgbtq2s-activists-fearful-of-a-poilievre-government-some-say-trudeau-should-step-down-1.7024555 I do believe that the LGBT community should be worried about what the Conservatives will do when they win the next election. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about it. The hate for the Liberals and indifference to the NDP are just too strong right now.
NEX Posted September 7 Posted September 7 When did 2 Spirit become the official part of the acronym? I remember researching into this last year and there was literally only one dodgy institution that was using it. And now this is the second time I'm seeing it on atrl in a very short period of time. Some of these letters added to the acronym are created by adversaries out of mockery. We shouldn't use them just because we feel guilty that someone might get excluded if we don't 2

Not sure how it became so common in Canada
VOSS Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I don't think it matters if Trudeau steps down at this point though. People are over the liberals
Princess Aurora Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Not Canada having its 2016 moment I mean, he's been in power for so long but I'm surprised an anti-LGBTQ+ government could be next over there

LGBT+ covers everything and is enough. 1 1

Isn't this ignorant to a large cultural nuance to Canadian culture and the much larger role indigenous people play? I get not seeing it be used much in America but it seems reasonably much more commonly used in Canada for a reason. 3

Yeah, two-spirit is a widely accepted term among Indigenous scholars and leaders in Canada, and its inclusion in the modern acronym is in part related to Canada's larger commitment to Indigenous reconciliation efforts. The replies in here are misinformed at best and malicious at worst. OT: Unfortunately it won't really matter at this point whether Trudeau steps down. This isn't a US/Biden situation where the incumbent party's issues were mostly concentrated on the specific leader as an individual. The federal Liberal party as an entire entity is in very bad shape in Canada right now and no replacement leader will be able to stop a Conservative blowout. Changing leaders maybe just gets you from an outright Conservative majority to a very dominant Conservative minority. 4 3

JustHoran Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Not Canada copying the US with what we did with Biden Justin Trudeau is not a bad guy IMO. I hope he stays, as I do think he will win in Canada. 1 1
