Decriminalising homosexuality when and where? It has been legal in France since 1791.

Thread title is misleading.

I asked chatgpt

Quote

> Did Michel Barnier vote against homosexuality decriminalization?

> No, Michel Barnier did not vote against the decriminalization of homosexuality in France. At the time of the vote in 1982, Michel Barnier was not a member of the French National Assembly, so he did not participate in the vote. The decriminalization was part of broader reforms under President François Mitterrand's government, which included equalizing the age of consent for homosexual and heterosexual relations. Michel Barnier's voting record on this issue is often mistakenly associated with this period, but he did not have the opportunity to vote on it as he was not in the Assembly at that time.

So what is the truth? Is OP lying?

I wonder how shocked US fauxgressives/"lEfTiStS" (aka genocide apologist voters) are going to act when Holocaust Harris chases right wingers for her cabinet appointments and enacts Reaganite policies on several issues (like her and Biden already are doing).

This is what happens when you elect and compromise with liberals.

Apparently the law is about prohibiting sexual acts between an adult and a minor. Could be wrong (like almost everything on X these days) but we need someone to fact-check :celestial5:

No idea but since he was fine with a text calling homosexuality an act « against human nature », I don't think he has changed much.

A 1945 law stated that the age of sexual consent was 13 for straights and 21 for homosexuals. It was later changed to 15 and 18 respectively but that paragraph about same-sex relationships (which could be sentenced for indecent exposure) under 21 remained until 1982.

You being one of the most hysterical islamophobes on here in the name of LGBTQ rights yet not realizing you're defending a bill via the very tactic the European right tries to use, conflating homosexuality with pedophilia. :rip:

Having a disparity between the age of consent between straight people and gay people is by definition homophobic, let alone when predicated on the reasoning that being homosexual is unnatural and against human nature.

Imagine countering that with a post on X :skull:

OT: whether or not he voted against it, he's trash and Macron's motives are obvious

A post based on an actual article, you could also read the thread you are posting in instead of playing stupid :rip:

I'm not going to entertain you with a quote considering that will only result in more personal attacks, but why don't you include my full post where I asked for someone to fact-check? All I did was open the tweet linked by OP and post the first reply that showed up. And the way the title was worded made it seem like he voted against homosexuality altogether, regardless of age limit, so the confusion in this thread is understandable. But thanks to the context provided by @roso it all makes more sense now.

Macron is really a moron and I totally understand why the French hate him. This is a betrayal of the results of the election.

The age of consent laws in Europe are so annoying because both sides are usually wrong—the general age of consent should be older, but also gays and straights should have the same age of consent. It's weird/interesting in retrospect to read about how the lowering of same-sex age of consent to 16 in the UK to match the straight age was seen as a win for gays because it should be higher for both lol.
