bielneira Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Honestly, her response sounded to me like "I wanted another hit, so I'm working with him again"
Katamari Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Should have gotten Bonnie instead of Luke since that was the real reason for success

Even her new singles get outstreamed by less popular artist than her such as like Jojo Siwa, Tinashe and Addison Rae 1

Genuinely. I think this might be the last time we see her for a LONG time, and it is kind of sad that it is ending on such a sour note. It's of her own making for sure, I guess but still. She's maneuvering herself from one PR disaster into another, desperately trying to capture her old glory, the visuals look like they'd be viral in 2010 (and 2010 only), the songs are not connecting. I wish she would have stayed on the path that she took on with NRO. Even Harleys in Hawaii was pretty good, they seemed like a genuine evolution. These songs were showing off facets of Katy, that I personally hadn't seen before and I was really appreciating. 5 hours ago, Princess Aurora said: How did she go from Never Really Over and Harleys In Hawaii to Woman's World? The sad fact is that Never really Over was also a ripoff of another song (imo a better one). It seems like we're getting rip offs or soulless music in the same vein. It's like she's trying to recreate the last time she had some actual success. HIH was written by Charlie Puth I believe and idk how much of that came from Katy if we're being honest. She kind of dug herself into a hole creatively and… well… here we are. Idk what's going on with her but it's like Katy's creativity has dried up (or wasn't really there to begin with). Dr. Luke, Katy, and Bonnie McKee wrote some absolute bangers on TD and Prism. I guess Bonnie was the lyricist out of the three because Luke/Katy just isn't giving the same level of quality. 5

BrokenMachine Posted September 5 Posted September 5 You can say anything about Katy, but her personal imprint and way of songwriting is too evident in all of her songs. She has writing camps like every other artist in the industry, but her own pen stands from the other contributions (in good and bad ways for equal). 1

Never Really Over is actually less of a rip-off and a more creative one than Cali Gurls (and a lot of other songs). They used Dagny's chord progression and top melody but did so many (great) things with it that it didn't feel derivative. I actually prefer NRO to LYLT, especially the chorus. The problem with the new songs is that they add nothing special to whatever amalgam of generic europop chords they're based on
