STMG23 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 I am still recovering from seeing this in the awards thread so give me a little time please
Likingstars Posted September 3 Posted September 3 This is actually better than what i expected given the source material this looks like her best project since 2017 tbh 1
John Slayne Posted September 3 Posted September 3 i can't believe y'all said this was an oscar contender
Digitalism Posted September 3 Posted September 3 (edited) I called it even before watching the trailer, this was never winning based on the plot alone. Now that it's clearly a comedy it has even less chances. Edited September 3 by Digitalism

IBeMe Posted September 3 Posted September 3 WTF was this?! The first minute seemed cute and i was thinking moms would love this movie and then she transforms to a dog and it loses the plot completely....do they think this will be another Everything All At Once or something?
SUNSET BLVD Posted September 3 Posted September 3 I hate that yall learned the word "campy" in 2019 and now use it to describe anything bad. 💀😭
ultraviolence.xx Posted September 3 Posted September 3 4 hours ago, Blue Monday said: My friend went to a test screening of this and described the tone as "Black Swan meets Tully." The trailer is obviously not that, so I'm not sure if they've changed things since that screening or if this trailer is just meant to make it seem more accessible... don't think Amy is getting nominated for this either way though to me it seems like a Young Adult (Diablo Cody) situation in which the trailer drastically misrepresented the movie. but I haven't seen it so what do I know

The source material seems very rich (even if the concept is strange) and this trailer makes it feel cheap and kinda dumb. Edited September 4 by Blue Monday 1
Braz Posted September 4 Posted September 4 I'm only sorry Marielle Heller's involved in this mess, she's too talented for something that looks this hideous. 1

I'm going to wait and see the film before giving my final judgment, but it looks like a mess based on the trailer. On the plus side, I love that they used Edge of Midnight in the trailer. 1
Life Savers Posted September 4 Posted September 4 The tone? I was expecting something wildly different. Probably will miss the nom.
Thin White Duke Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Oh, this looks appallingly ridiculous and I'm here for it.
OnlyManInTheWorld Posted September 4 Posted September 4 (edited) Honestly, the first half didn't even look that bad. And then she turned into a dog... Edited September 4 by OnlyManInTheWorld
enchanted0 Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Sorry you're the issue if you don't "get" this trailer. It did exactly what it intended. I saw someone on X saying that Lanthimos should have done this movie so he can give some eerie atmosphere to this….. they're so out of touch it's crazy. that said yeah she's not getting Oscar or nomination from this
Luminary Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Oh wow.. this looks bad. Amy is in desperate need of a better agent, good luck hunnie
Velvet Night Posted September 4 Posted September 4 I read the book, and this is not what I was expecting from the trailer at all. I hope it is a bait-and-switch, and they haven't given too much away, but the tone is wildly different. The book is way more serious and dark. I really hope they didn't turn this into a wacky comedy
fountain Posted September 4 Posted September 4 I have to echo that this is not what I was expecting either. I'll still watch the finished product, hopefully it has more of a psychological tone going on, but there's no denying this trailer is pretty awful (in kind of the best way?). If it does end up being what the trailer portrays, I hope the movie at least spawns some memes.
