Feanor Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) Inspired by the replies & quotes to this thread/tweet, plus other discussion I've seen on Twitter over the years of people dragging adults who are big fans of pop culture franchises such as Harry Potter, Disney, Marvel, Nintendo, Lego and also big stans of artists & actors. Emphasis on big fans, as in dedicated fans. I'm not talking about casual fans who only enjoy those things on a surface level, but of those fans who really dedicate a lot of their time and money to whatever it is they're fans of. So how do you feel when people call out others, mostly adults, for still being big fans/stans of Harry Potter/Disney/Marvel/Pop Girls etc. after a certain age? Edited September 2 by Feanor 1
Popular Post Selegend Posted September 2 Popular Post Posted September 2 if it affects your daily life it's embarassing. if it's a hobby thing like straight man loves football it's okay. u can be passionate and dedicated in a limited amount of hours, that's fine. 16
Burn Posted September 2 Posted September 2 It all depends on how you go about it. Being older and still listening to the music / going to shows / watching the films is fine. But what those HP fans did - yes that is embarrassing for adults to do. A flashmob dancing to an MPG's songs would be equally as cringy. 10
Katamari Posted September 2 Posted September 2 If it gives ppl some escape from the cruel world why not most of its hypocrisy anyways too much of anything isn't good usually is all I will say 12
Popular Post Gorjesspazze9 Posted September 2 Popular Post Posted September 2 When you're an adult, you can enjoy whatever entertainment you like 🤷♀️It's more cringe to judge people for what they like to enjoy during thier leisure time 26 4
getBusy Posted September 2 Posted September 2 No. It's their time and their money. Let people enjoy things. 2
Popular Post Badgalbriel Posted September 2 Popular Post Posted September 2 Of course not. We're all fighting on a pop forum on a daily basis over which one of our celebrity faves is bigger. Let's be self conscious ffs. 5 10
Bloodflowers. Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Yes, but ATRL is last place to throw judgment since we are equally losers just as them 4
karron0624 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 No. Who cares what people do to escape. The alternative is their whole life is about their job and their kids and making their kids live their aspirations, and we all know how that turns out. We only have a good 50 - 100 years on this earth and i'll be damned if i let someone whose life isnt fulfilled dictate how i will fulfill my own life. 4
JustHoran Posted September 2 Posted September 2 No. I literally don't care what people think of me. Feels good. 4
Princess Aurora Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) I love Disney but Disney adults terrify me for example Overall not really, If you keep it as something personal, it's not a problem at all. Edited September 2 by Princess Aurora
Windy Day Posted September 2 Posted September 2 nothing to do with age. basing your entire personality on disney and harry potter is cringe like at least find something good to base your personality on…
Digitalism Posted September 2 Posted September 2 If a stan is embarrasing they are embarrasing no matter what they stan. It's not about the subject matter but the behaviour 1
Joey307 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 No, I'm 22 and I love Batman, Mario, Ariana Grande/Taylor Swift, etc. Though I've never liked Harry Potter. Had friends who did but that was it. Always thought it was cheesy and boring. 1
truthteller Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) tell that to the fans of football teams Edited September 2 by truthteller
Robyn. Posted September 2 Posted September 2 It depends on how you act about it, but no overall it's not embarrassing. You're just consuming different forms of entertainement, there's no age to that. However, Disney adults meeting up with princesses at Disney parks and crying like it's not just a random lady cosplaying as a disney character is legit embarrassing yeah. 2
Devin Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) truly depends on how u go about it. if what u stan/passionate about turns into a personality or an addiction, then yea thats embarassing. Edited September 2 by Devin 1
Blackout2006 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 In the sense of collecting, hobbies, or building fan-based communities (third spaces and hubs for connecting with new people)? No
Minto Posted September 2 Posted September 2 the mantra i live by is that it's embarrassing if anyone other than me is doing it 6
Alaska. Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Yes. Stop enjoying things that make you happy past 25 4
The7thStranger Posted September 2 Posted September 2 No. Just know the difference between reality and fantasy. 1
EtherealCat Posted September 2 Posted September 2 we are sat on atrl fighting about ancient pop girl stats we really cant talk about this
AshleyLovescats887 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I feel like I can't judge them or i would be a hypocrite
BrokenMachine Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Only a Disney stan. Like, imagine being an already grown adult who already knows all of the shady stuff Disney does behind closed doors the whole time, and still having the nerve to rant about how your favorite character from 30 years ago got their skin color changed for some random remake and complain about how your 'infancy is ruined' because of that 1
