Most of the budget probably went to the Drake feature :suburban:

What are you talking about? There was no music video for Hot Uptown.

They effed up the era by not sending I Luv It to radio. The song is still doing 250K  streams daily. Also the Kendrick Lamar Drake feud killed Hot Uptowns chances, and not releasing a music video for Hot Uptown was a big mistake. He Knows was a good song but underperformed because Lil Nas X is at the lowest point in his career. Then June Gloom starts getting decent streaming in late August and September but Camila and her management don't capitalize on it and never sent it to radio. Then they get us all excited about a deluxe version with 4 new songs and a new single Godspeed. The single and new video comes out but the song never got sent to radio. She promotes the song at the VMAs, but things still don't change, she still doesn't send the song to radio. Then she performs at the Iheart festival and doesn't perform Godspeed. The album had good songs on it, just bad luck and bad management killed the era.

I agree. Definitely a mix of bad luck and timing.

I actually defend this album so hard. I don't really know what they could have done with singles but I'm surprised He Knows was regretted so hard.

this is definitely my favourite camila album, so unfortunate how many horrible choices occured though.. i mean,, the CXOXO deluxe cover?? godspeed being a single?? the koshi interlude?? What was anyone thinking? Regardless, I hope she continues to experiment and continue to try new sounds for her because I feel like she's tapped into something special.

Oh yeah because you only pay the artist for being in the music video, not for his vocals being recorded in the studio I forgot babe.

I'm still shocked she started the era giving false hope, false concept and two songs she didn't even released.

I've never seen this happening before. The album is good and one of her best, but the whole aesthetic, statements and interviews she gave about the album DOES NOT match the sound, except for I LUV IT, Chanel and Baby.

The whole "rebrand" ended up being just a hair color change.

I don't agree. If they sent I LUV IT to radio it would have been at least a top 20 hit and it would have saved her career.

She said in interview that was non-transactional and Drake is known to not charge for features as he only works with friends or people he likes and respects. She didn't even ask him to be on the album btw, she only asked him to listen then he offered to contribute Hot Uptown. She probably paid for only Carti and City Girls.

I Luv It had:

  • catchy chorus
  • catchy choreography
  • a collaboration with a popular rapper

But the gays and stan twitter simply hated it for no reason, only to admit months later that "it wasn't that bad." :duck: Even with that, it could have been a nice mid hit like Bam Bam if it had at least been sent to radio...

The only reasons I think they didn't send it to radio was because either:

1) Carti didn't allow them to (for some reason)

2) They were going to drop Hot Uptown with Drake in April and wanted to push that hard (99% sure this is why)

I think Eem Triplin is my favorite male feature on a Camila song.
a woman is laughing while sitting in a crowd of people in a stadium .

Chanel no. 5, Baby Pink and I LUV IT are the kind of sound Camila should stick with. She needs to focus on that so she can build a loyal fanbase and also gain more attention (and respect) from music lovers.

No more identity crisis, please

I don't know if that's fully true. I don't know how she got HOT UPTOWN, but it looks like it was in Drake's camp before she recorded it. Maybe he heard the project and showed her this song, but her team would've then purchased the rights on it for sure...and that kinda makes sense since Drake feels like more of the focus on this track than Camila.

I'm not sure if you watched all the interviews but she said it was HIS demo that he sent her weeks after she showed him the album. So he probably passed it around to Nicki first and it didn't work for them, then he sent it to C after he heard her project. And maybe they paid the producers but Drake's people have said many times he doesn't charge the artist for features, meaning she didn't pay him to be on the song. If his feature had a price tag, a lot more popstars would have Drake features, but he's very selective. Hot Uptown was his song from the beginning so of course he would have no problem being on it.

I wasn't a fan of the album when it first came out but it's been really growing on me lately

she's doing godspeed on the radio 1 live lounge rn.

i don't dislike it how i did when i first heard it but i am at complete loss to understand why this is being given all the promo, it's fine but it's not really single material imo.

there'll probably be videos up later (cover tbc atm)

I don't think it matters anymore, it doesn't look like anything is sent to radio or any other promotional push.

She is just out there demonstrating her talent while we wait for that remix to come out
