Angelina Jolie's Maria has finally premiered and we are getting first reactions from critics at the Venice Film Festival. Many have praised Jolie's performance yet they are divided on the film who call Jolie the only saving grace of the movie. Now it has been getting mixed reviews and has debuted 62 Metacritic score.

This comes after the Lipsters (Jolie Stans) were being arrogant and sure that Angelina will win the Oscar and that the other hags can choke.  But now it looks like Jolie will be lucky enough to get a nomination. With this development, who do you think is the front runner for the Best Actress Oscar and take it from Jolie?

Well her reviews are solid enough for a nom soo :michael: She was never winning with a Larrain film anyway.

Fear not

She is likely getting a nomination but because of her vocal support of Palestinians, she will not get an Oscar win, unfortunately

Honestly, some of her reviews aren't even that good.

"Jolie, try as she does, is constantly distracting as Callas, constantly having to lip synch various bits of the singer's greatest moments as well as perform the mimicry of a lost voice, sort of like the mime version of Florence Foster Jenkins (2016)."- Ioncinema

"Out of all three, Angelina Jolie disappears into Callas the least. If – borrowing one pianist's words from the film – you can hear Maria or you can hear "La Callas", instead of Jolie the Actor, you get Jolie the Star.

As a star, Jolie is undeniable. As an actor, it has been a while since she's done anything remotely interesting, piling up all those Maleficents instead. "Garbo laughs!", boasted an old MGM ad, teasing a brand-new chapter in her career. This time, you won't believe that "Jolie sings".

Her stiff performance doesn't hit the highest octaves – it also sets the tone for a story that's ticking too many recognisable boxes."- Cineuropa

"Jolie is given ample space to dazzle, but less to surprise. Dazzle she does though, with a fine understanding of just how camp she can go without proceedings becoming too operatic for their own good."- Telegraph

"In some ways she is meant only to be a physical manifestation of the music—recordings of Callas that play throughout the film, sometimes mixed in with Jolie's own singing. Jolie struggles in these scenes, never quite convincing us that these huge notes and plaintive lilts are actually coming from her."- Vanity Fair

"Every gesture Jolie makes is tragic and quivering; when she smiles, it's the wan, magnanimous kind, as if she really couldn't be bothered. This is a performance from the "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" school, a great artist's final days rendered with a self-conscious sheen that has nothing to do with the inherent grandness, or sadness, of Callas's life."- Time

"Despite that, there's something bloodless about what Jolie actually does onscreen, a level of remove that makes it seem like she's playing a woman who's playing Maria Callas."- Vulture

"Jolie's leading performance is just as stoic, the famed actress far too recognizable as Angelina Jolie to fully melt into Maria Callas. It is a turn swathed in tangible self-consciousness, delivered by an actress far too aware of the camera."- The Playlist

anyway if Renee and Jessica could win for those biopics I don't see why Angelina can't with the right campaign unless the reviews are truly panned upon its actual release

Pablo Larraín when I catch you...although Gaga's chances of winning probably went from 20% to like 40% (if she gets nominated). Angelina Jolie was the major contender and even though she will probably get the nomination, there's no way she wins now.

Don't most Best Actress winning films get mixed reviews. For example The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Judy, Still Alice, Blue Jasmine, The Iron Lady, The Blind Side, The Reader, La Vie en Rose, Monster, and Monster's Ball.

i love that half of the critiques are "Angelina is simply too famous to be an actress"

Yes, but this is ATRL so you have to anticipate some out of touch takes here and there :rip: An acclaimed movie (and box office smash) only helps your Oscar BA campaign, but it's only a portion of the total equation (as you've alluded to).

Y'all want this to be another Margot Robbie/Bablyon moment and it's just not realistic. Wait to see how it plays out and save face while you can.
