Does Vanessa Carlton's White Houses contain some of the best songwriting in pop ever?

Also we need to appreciate this music video where she shows a male gay couple back in early 2000s! Progressive ICON :clap3:

I've been a Vanessa fan since her debut. White Houses is one of the best pop songs of all time, in fact a lot of her music is some of the best pop music of all time.

Is it? I've seen her live probably 5 times now, she sounds literally the same as she did when she debuted especially when she sang White Houses and Carousel.

I know I'm not the only one who thinks she sounds completely different but you're lucky that you don't notice a difference in her voice :rip:

Harmonium was DELAYED for months by her record label after White Houses underperformed due to MTV and radio ban and yet she STILL opened with over 100k pure sales. She had GIRLS IN A CHOKEHOLD, she really was og Taylor Swift

Queen **** :ryan3:Meanwhile  Love is an Art probably debuted with like 1.8k at best cjlyiajdjjddjdlkfhdhd :rip: At least they played one of the songs in the HBO Max Gossip Girl reboot.

She really was a progressive trailblazer, I remember she put a gay couple in the Hands on Me music video too  I also LOVE Pretty Baby, probably my favorite on the album next to Unsung (she had Kurt Cobain shook from the grave with that sample :suburban:)

I feel like Die, Dinosaur would've honestly fit better given that a large chunk of the show was centered around the youth revolting against the "rich white man" , but I also really love this song so I'm not that mad about it :ryan3:

Ohhh, I love this song!

"Nothing Where Something Used To Be" is also an excellent track from her previous album Liberman

Taste! Twilight too! She had so many songs that the youth would stan but OLD MEN couldn't grasp a successful female artists who has main appeal with young girls and gays. She really paved the way for what we have now after her record label constantly sabotaged instead of having faith in her appeal

'CAUSE STEVIE KNOWS AND I THAAAANNNK HER SO 'CAUSE IT'S YOUR SEEDS I SOW AND NOW I KNOWWWWWWWWWWW :jonny5:

The way Blue Pool was the closest thing she got to a hit after this considering they used it in an EOS (a shitty lil balm from America that got discontinued due to it causing bleeding/chapped lips :rip: ) commercial that always played constantly as well as some airline commercial :rip: I'm not mad though given that it's my probably my favorite on Liberman next to River or Ascension.

Ugh yes, thank you for the tag :WAP: great analysis!

The way she sings some of the lines "he's SO funny in his bright red shirt…" I can feel her deluding herself to fall for the boy's tricks :jonnycat:

"maybe I'm more clever than a girl like her…" the insecurity in her voice :emofish:

the whole record indeed is a masterpiece… the back to back HITS that are Who's to Slay, AnnGOD, San Francisco… the wreckage being the best way to end the album… UGH!!! I love it!!

My wish is for Vanessa to do all the piano arrangements on a Taylor album…. TTPD anthology piano tracks remind me of Vanessa but they're lacking the sweeping piano melodies.

YESSSSS at the praise for The Wreckage. I always get chills when the piano kicks in and her voice gets higher :jonny5: Harmonium is really one of the best pop albums ever made omfg.
