Starmer won't break with austerity, says autumn budget will be 'painful'

October's Budget will be "painful" and the government will have to make "big asks" of the public, Sir Keir Starmer has warned.

Speaking from the Downing Street garden, the prime minister said people would have to "accept short-term pain for long-term good".

He did not set out the details of what would be in the Budget but said those with the "broadest shoulders should bear the heavier burden".

I don't understand why the UK government can't leave austerity behind. Are they masochist or something?

The public who did nothing but pay their taxes and had little access to their basic services.

Get rid of governments entirely. They're just a front for corporations

he is such a cowardly craven servile LOSER. i thought he was tolerable until 2021 but halfway through that year he went on a massive shift to the right with, for example, the appointment of rachel reeves as shadow chancellor. since she promised to uphold the tories' fiscal rules this was the only option, but they were completely disingenuous about it during the election campaign. it just shows how this filthy mob will say and do anything, and trample over anyone, to position their filthy asses on the backseat of a ministerial car.

growing up i never thought i wouldn't vote for labour but now i can't imagine myself ever voting for them.

Yeah but how can a country's economy run If the majority of the population struggles or becomes poor? This is only limited to the UK but the current economic model makes no sense.

Living in the UK is painful and they are already asking too much of the public. People booted tories out because they wanted to see change.

Where did I say that?

I vote Green.

Bye to the whole notion you have to put up with right-wing snake-oil salesmen just because they wear a red rosette.

Give them a chance they just started

Also Green don't stand a chance to win and I don't want to live under a tory government ever again

There are 44 seats where the Greens came first or second at the last election. That number will grow exponentially as the collapse of Starmer's Labour continues.

And I'm afraid for all intents and purposes you're going to be living under a Tory government for the next five years. From everything to their fiscal rules, hateful language and policies towards trans people, and corruption scandals, Labour has simply copied their homework.
