brenda-walsh Posted August 22 Posted August 22 why is everyone so surprised its not diamond yet? the album has 790M streams on spotify and that's only global numbers. i'm sure with other streaming services in the US its done a fair amount but with average streaming numbers + poor recurrent pure sales it makes sense that its still 9x platinum and will probably need another few years to get to diamond certified status

This doesn't includes stores that weren't tracked through Soundscan, along with other music clubs, streaming, TEA, etc. This has to be Diamond?! And I don't even like the album lol, just doesn't make sense. Idk if I recall correctly but RIAA doesn't count club sales? Or was it Billboard. I'm as confused as everyone else. Should be Diamond by now at the very least.
Scars Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Only one more platinum certification after 24 years? I'm aware Christina's streaming stats are far from great, but this doesn't makes any sense. 1

So that's why for a lot of 90s albums, people add the club sales to Soundscan numbers to get total confirmed sales. RIAA started counting club sales in 1995, so a ton of old albums got recertified around that time. 4
1989 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 This absolutely deserves diamond, hopefully it'll get there soon. Of all the teen pop records of the late 90's, Xtina's has always been by far the best. The way it still holds up to this day is insane. 2

thatsmydemi Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Diamond certifications must be expensive because there's no way the album isn't Diamond yet.

C'mon... 1m sales in 24 years is not normal. It's not like the album stopped selling, and then streaming appeared which made certifications even easier.
SwiftLover Posted August 22 Posted August 22 The album was over-shipped. Remember- albums could be certified based on shipments. explains the small bump in sales

U don't literally have to be at 10 million to get certified diamond. 9.7 million would be enough and either way if we factor in Apple the album is definitely diamond. The Adele album is a dumb comparison since it's during the streaming era. Christinas sales are like 99% pure sales.
Xtripped Posted August 23 Posted August 23 The last SPS numbers leaked are from january 2022 and even then the album was at 9,683,000 Pure sales: 8,283,000 SPS sales: 8,748,000 Club sales: 935,000 Total sales: 9,683,000 It's clearly this was certified without the music club sales, I mean it's being 9xP elegible since 2001 not to mention Soundscans only covered like 80% of shops during 00s. Maybe it's true the rumor that labels lost access to music club sales data and those figures would not be included or taken into account for future updates. I'm hoping for a Billboard article with updated SPS numbers.

brenda-walsh Posted August 23 Posted August 23 the coping from Xtina fans in here when the album just clearly hasn't sold 10M units give it up deelish! 1
Bad_vocal_technique Posted August 23 Posted August 23 It just needs a viral revival to get to diamond. Lol

The streams of her debut album have increased since then BMG sales are not counted for RIAA certifications anymore unlike in the past as they deem those sales as "lost". Hence, "Christina Aguilera" needs to reach 10 million units without BMG sales to reach Diamond status. The same thing happened with Britney's "Britney". The album's sales without club sales are around 4,827,250, so until it reaches 5M units it will not be certified 5xPlatinum despite being well over 5 million with club sales.
