Lorelei Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Spoiler There are so many layers to this and what struck me the most was the parallel to addiction. Both Elisabeth and Sue abuse the substance at some point and although the supplier keeps asking Elisabeth if she wants to stop the experience, she refuses and goes back to binge eating as punishment to Sue who then has body image nightmares. Whenever she's confronted with conseuquences she disassociates by acting as if the two are different people. This could apply to our addiction to social media, cosmetic enhancements, fad diets, unhealthy habits we can't break away from etc. It's about control over our image and the dread of losing it (ex. "You have to control yourself!") And then Elisasue being described as a Picasso of the male gaze hits so real. Women are seen as fragments, especially on media, never as full human beings. Coralie took that and made it literal; that's what the third act symbolizes and points out the irony. 2 3

She's not a registered human, no ID, no nothing. How did she sign her deal? How did she open a bank account? Until she got paid, was she using Elizabeth's Credit Cards? You're not supposed to think too deeply about it. This is not a movie that's supposed to be very realistic, you have to suspend your disbelief. 5
fossora Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Playing Anna Von Hausswolff for the finale????? I nearly lost my shitttt 1

Shelter Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Just seen it. Demi deserves everything, she was absolutely brilliant. Did she have to look like Glenn Close … Spoiler When she had the hunch back I swear it reminded me of Glenn in the Deliverance The movie was great until the ending, it kinda lost me then unfortunately. 8
Whis Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Just finished this movie. I would stan Sue Spoiler The second face on Monstro Elisasue having veneers

Gurl Sue came out of Elizabeth's back and then Sue sew her and everything was fine 🤣 The movie is full of symbolism, logic is out of the window And that's why it will be not a contender this award season, so many plot holes that could've been easily dealed with, but instead writers didn't want to think about it and used movie magic as an explanation for everything. 1 4 8

Even fairytales have some stablished rules to their own universes and follow them through the story, unlike this where things happen just for the sake of it. By the way, I'm by no means a hater, I actually enjoyed it and think it is a very good film, and for the most part, greatly written, but somehow filled with some scenes more worthy of Scary movie than a Lynch film (and I'm talking mostly about the last 20 minutes of the film). At least, for me, those scenes took me out of the film, and stopped it from being one of my favorites of the year. 2 1

The Scary Movie comparison is apt because this is actually a comedy and a satire of Hollywood. 2 1
XxHeadstrongxX Posted October 22 Posted October 22 Kslfnfkfkfb that movie was funny af. I couldn't believe what I watched. Bravo 1
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted October 22 Posted October 22 This movie has Elisabeth when she was equivalent to a 70-year-old, got her knee dislocated when she sat for too long, and at 120-year-old she was running around her big ass house, dragging the hell out of Sue, and somehow some people really expected this movie to be realistic C'mon, be serious lol 1 5 2
leyaris11 Posted October 22 Posted October 22 (edited) I watch this in theater, the whole theater was gasp when Spoiler Sue kicked the oldie, deformed Elisabeth....lol The theater was packed, the whole audiences claps when the movie ended. This movies was good, weird, gory and overall sadden. Well, it's been a while since we have a body horror as good as this. Edited October 22 by leyaris11 4
