There's a bit more of character development they could have used that time for instead of… that. Spoiler Elisabeth, after so much self inflicted pain and self loathing, is finally liberated and finds the courage to leave the house, for the first time without caring what she looks like on the outside...that's peak character development. I found it symbolic and beautiful, my heart broke for her at the NYE show. She basically reverted back all the violence she had been subjected too, for years. 14

But i have to say: once it comes out in streaming i can't wait to see Youtube reactions, it's gonna be fun to watch. 2
Tiziano's Boy Posted October 16 Posted October 16 The Substance was unreal, very gory, gross out for sure, very funny at bits, heartbreaking too, it's one of my favourite horror movies, full stop, it only started in my cinema last Friday. Spoiler I nearly passed out at the bit where she had to pull out her teeth and the bit where she killed Elisabeth , that was far too much for me to handle, the bit where Monstro Elisasue was decapitated and the blood was sprayed everywhere, that f*cking killed me, it was so funny , but it I felt so uneasy when she used The Activator again, poor Monstro Elisasue, I felt so bad for her 2
Baby Dancer Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Didn't really like it The topic of the movie is corny and played out but at least it has AMAZING makeup and Demi Moore being camp. 3
James_Dean Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Just watched this... I can't wrap my head around it. ******* insane 1

I came out in such a state of shock that I was rambling about it to a friend, while also not having the words to describe what my mind was trying to process. Such an insane movie. In a great way. same nn I immediately had to call @Alongoria13 to get my thoughts out because I was gagged 1
thatsmydemi Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Just came home from watching this... the last 20 minutes gave me claustrophobia and almost made me leave the room to take some air 6
Lorelei Posted October 17 Posted October 17 If this doesn't get at least a Best Actress/Screenplay nomination when it checks all the Academy boxes it will be a joke 5
Bad_vocal_technique Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Omfg my favorite movie of the year so far. the last part was absolutely necessary and I'll fight anyone who disagrees. Monster ElizaSue the legend that you are 5
UnderratedVocalist Posted October 17 Posted October 17 I was literally just thinking yesterday that this movie and Demi's performance have so many parallels to Nicole Scherzinger's Sunset Boulevard. And Nicole just posted a photo with Demi, she went to see the show yesterday. ******* crazy Demi and Nicole both giving the performances of their career in ground breaking pieces of art while bringing some serious issues to the forefront in the most creative and brilliant way. In a fair world, we will be soon speaking about Tony winner Nicole Scherzinger and Oscar winner Demi Moore. 1
UnderratedVocalist Posted October 18 Posted October 18 The only thing that kinda bothered me a lot - and I know this is a movie. How did Sue get TV deals and ****? She's not a registered human, no ID, no nothing. How did she sign her deal? How did she open a bank account? Until she got paid, was she using Elizabeth's Credit Cards? 1

How the substance works wasn't explained properly either. If you can believe that, you can also believe that Sue was able to get a job without an ID etc. It is just "movie magic". 1

True, but you could get a sense of how it worked - duplicating your DNA and you just pop out another version of yourself. Even if it's farfetched, there's still SOME kind of logic behind it, I guess. But what then? You pop out a new version of yourself. How does that version integrate in the system? 1
BionicWooHoo Posted October 18 Posted October 18 I'm very bad w scary movies, is the substance like actually scary? Like keep you up at night? Or like campy stupid like Thanksgiving?
discosean Posted October 18 Posted October 18 OMG The Substance is absolutely wild! It's so extreme, grotesque, and shocking. It is disturbing. Even if you are not into this sort of horror (I have always preferred the Hitchcock style of horror that relies more on not showing all the blood and gore), we need to grapple with re-examining the absolute extremes we sometimes push ourselves to so we can look a certain way and the unrealistic standards we hold our favorite stars and celebrities to. This whole notion of people not being valuable or relevant when they reach a certain age is outdated. What is supposed to happen when we turn 35, 40, 45, 50 and beyond? Are we supposed to go hide under the bed and die? We still have so left much to offer. We also need to give people a chance to share what they are offering instead of writing them off as being 'too old.' It's funny how when we were kids and teens we can't wait to be adults and then when we are adults we look back to how seemingly better it would be to be a kid again. 2
Kern Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Maybe when she crawled out of her body she already had ID inside of her 6
Orsay Posted October 18 Posted October 18 I really wanna watch this and I'm sure it's great based on what I'm hearing but I really don't do well with gore so I'm scared I know it's a more funny, light-hearted horror but some of the scenes I've seen are ******* nastyyy… I gotta be a big girl and go see it soon though while it's still in theaters

It might be left unexplained intentionally. There are some vague details in the movie, for example the time period the movie takes place. Some aspects are very 80s while they use smartphones etc. It didn't affect my watching experience though. 47 minutes ago, Orsay said: I really wanna watch this and I'm sure it's great based on what I'm hearing but I really don't do well with gore so I'm scared I know it's a more funny, light-hearted horror but some of the scenes I've seen are ******* nastyyy… I gotta be a big girl and go see it soon though while it's still in theaters This was the first body horror I have watched as I have a really light stomach that I feel sick even when somebody talks about an operation but I am happy that I watched it on the big screen. 1

Gurl Sue came out of Elizabeth's back and then Sue sew her and everything was fine 🤣 The movie is full of symbolism, logic is out of the window 6
