TipToe Posted October 24 Posted October 24 (edited) I loved this movie and i'm really not into this kind of graphic stuff. You know when people say a movie feels like a "fever dream"? This movie is something that really fits this description imo. The direction is insane, it's not only the visuals but also the sound effects. Of course props to Demi, an impressive performance. Mr. Peanutbutter Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Just finished watching it and I have never felt so uncomfortable watching a movie quite like this. Fantastic movie, Demi was incredible, the cinematography, the sound design, just 10/10 all around. 2
MatiRod Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I haven't been this shaken and fascinated by a film in a long time. Technically perfect, every shot could be a poster. Demi needs to be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars, this was an insanely physical performance and she gave it her all. I can't stop thinking about this film. Also as someone who is going into showbiz who is a bit "older" than the average 18 year old that starts this career path, I kind of needed this. I don't want to go through my whole life fighting age and thinking I was better when I was younger. 9 2

We next see her at her agents office where she gets dropped and then has the car crash. Elisabeth's cleaning staff, Maria, comes in the morning after the activation but Sue manages to shut the door in time, text her and get her to leave. Sue leaves her a note with a bunch of money. There is a scene where Elisabeth takes out the sutures from her back and Coralie notes that they look like spider legs in the sink. This starts a recurring motif of the spider in the script that is completely missing from the final cut. There is a great moment where Sue uses her newfound sexuality to let herself into the audition after security asks for her ID. Elizabeth later gets asked for ID when picking up her old stuff from the network and has to call Harvey's assistant to be let in. Elizabeth tries and fails to "cure" her aged finger with a cream she uses for her face, bandaging it up over night. It obviously doesn't work. But it's one of the few more explicit critiques on advertisement and products aimed at her. Elizasue later sprays billboards for toothpaste, bikinis and creams with blood after she escapes the studio. We actually meet Fred again, who yells after Elizabeth (recognising her in her coat) after she collects the Termination serum. Its a very funny scene because its almost played like a rom-com moment (she falls and he helps her up) and he is obviously bewildered by her appearance but she is like "Yeah, I live in Costa Rica now! Taxes hahaha! ILL CALL YOU!" Sue successfully attempts to glue her teeth back into her jaw with super glue after they fall out. This is also when the spider motif comes back, as a huge black spider that is in Sue's visions, making it difficult for her to see. im so ******* glad the spiders arent involved or i'd hate this movie how unnecessary

Bimbo Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Watched this for a second time at the movies and loved it even more omg this is truly a future camp classic 1
Uncatena Posted October 28 Author Posted October 28 this will probably end up with a 40 million dollar box office gross, extremely solid numbers for Mubi's first proper theatrical release
aahaspider Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Official first set of nominations of the '24-'25 Film Awards Season... Cheers to the first of hopefully many MO(O)RE. 13
Lorelei Posted November 1 Posted November 1 This is getting panned by local critics and audience in my country which doesn't surprise me at all. Half of the people moan about how gross and superficial it is and the other half completely miss the point of the film.
BeachRat Posted November 2 Posted November 2 it was simply ICONIC. a movie for the times. this is cinema and how cinema should be in 2024. SOPHIE would be proud. i couldn't help but think of her all the time. she shifted the culture and it finally shows how the world is ready to embrace the weird and the extravagant which at the same time has a strong and bold point to make. STUNNING. 4
Ivan_brit Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Finally watch it and it could had been a 10/10 but the last 10-15 min was tooo much but overall the rest of the movie is Demi & Margaret deserved all flowers both did a fantastic job!
truthteller Posted November 3 Posted November 3 the retro futuristic aesthetic with both queens' performance are just top notch it's such an old tale in new lens.... truly feels like a fever dream... the comedic bits are such a relief from the disgustingly bloody scene 1
brokee Posted November 3 Posted November 3 This was a crazy a$$ movie. one of the best movie releases this year.
brokee Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Should've posted this right after I watched it cause now I don't feel that but damn after I watched this I felt something heavy not a disgusting feeling or anything like that but can't explain it cause I really didn't like how it felt like it got me thinking something deeper which I didn't expect from a horror movie in 2024 so that was surprising. The last time something I felt heavy like from a movie was in 2022. I wish I could explain but damn that was heavy and I hated that period. luckily I don't feel it now.
blaggot Posted November 3 Posted November 3 I'm starting to feel a little hopeful for some Oscar noms if it could nab best sound design and makeup/effects it would be a dream, and performance noms for demi and margaret would be incredible

EnterTheAttic Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Warched it last night at the movies and HOLY ****! Here's my review!:
EnterTheAttic Posted November 3 Posted November 3 (edited) I have to say that I felt AWFUL and so very sad when Spoiler Monstro Elisasue was on stage, being sragged around amd then in the ground. The way she kept begging and screaming it 'it was still her', was heart wrenching to me. Please give ms Demi Moore her Oscar! Edited November 3 by EnterTheAttic 1
