Elisabeth Sparkle, star of an aerobics show, is fired on her 50th birthday by her boss because of her age. When she returns home, her morale at its lowest, she receives an unexpected proposal. A mysterious laboratory offers her a miraculous "substance": if she injects it, she will become "the best version" of herself, "younger, more beautiful, more perfect".

Watched this on Monday at an early preview and was blown away. Best film I've seen in a long long time. Cinematography was fantastic, every shot was super crisp and the SFX/VFX don't look cheap. The relationship between the two women who can't communicate with each other was very compelling. The juxtaposition of young Demi's life feeling like a perfume commercial and older Demi's life turning into a horror movie, so well done. My only issue is I f*cking hated the ending.

wow they gagged me, one of my favorite movies ever  :jonny6:

up there with Poor Things for me in terms of visuals, story and just the overall craziness

i feel like it ticked all the boxes in terms of camerawork, aesthetic, color, sound, music, acting, plot etc and even when it was starting to lose me with the ridiculousness, it got so over the top that it was just camp

Best horror since Hereditary for me. You have to go in as blind as possible. Pick an empty theater and just enjoy. Such a tour de force performance by both actresses, the writing and the direction are also phenomenal.

I need to rewatch this movie!

This was truly ******* phenomenal! I love when horror lives up to the hype once every blue moon. :jonny5:

Requiem for a Dream meets The Neon Demon meets Black Mirror meets campy, over-the-top 70s/80s horror full to the brim with insane practical effects. It even gave me a touch of Lynch and reminded me of 90s satires like Mars Attacks here and there.

In a perfect world, this would totally collect Oscar noms for cinematography (the recurring imagery of the star on the Walk of Fame alone>>>), editing, makeup and screenplay at the very least.

Also, props for the trailer! I went back to rewatch it and it didn't show a single thing it didn't need to. Love that!

Demi Moore saying yes to this kinda makes me scream and really ******* love her. Really great casting too considering the MILF image, Ashton Kutcher relationship and that viral allegedly botched image from a few years back.

Definitely have to catch this one at least once more at the theatre.

This movie was incredible! The makeup,  the visual effects,  the cinematography, and especially the screenplay were top notch. And Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley both BROUGHT IT. Fearless, gutsy, transformative, and riveting from both of them. Arthouse done right too :clap3:

I want this to be recognized somewhere this awards season but it'll heavily suffer from genre bias unfortunately. I'll celebrate if this at least gets screenplay or cinematography nominations anywhere,  I loved the color gradients used in the film,  a visual feast!

The Fly got a special effects nomination back in the day so there is precedent. If it only gets one nomination, its the most deserving (apart from Demi and her fearless performance)

It won back in the day actually:

This was back in the day when horror movies won Best Makeup pretty regularly. Now that hasn't happened since The Wolfman :rip: Though Poor Things was an amazing winner this year.

oh, right it won! awesome! I think this might have a good narrative/chance at a make-up nomination, not just the gore effects but also the

Spoiler

INSAAAANE prosthetics that Demi and Margaret eventually wear.
